Taylor Jordan, Erik Davis up; Kobernus, Marrero optioned

NEW YORK - The Nationals made two roster moves this morning. We knew one was coming. One is a little bit of a surprise. The Nats have selected the contract of right-hander Taylor Jordan from Double-A Harrisburg and also recalled right-handed reliever Erik Davis. To make room for those two, first baseman Chris Marrero and outfielder Jeff Kobernus were both optioned to Triple-A Syracuse. We knew Jordan would be coming up today and getting this afternoon's start against the Mets and that Marrero would be going down. The Davis-for-Kobernus swap is more unexpected, but the Nats wanted to give themselves another arm with Davis making his major league debut today. Long reliever Ross Ohlendorf pitched yesterday, so Davis gives the Nats another multi-inning option in case Jordan gets in trouble early. Jordan split time this season with Single-A Potomac and Double-A Harrisburg. His combined record between the two clubs was 9-1 with a 0.99 ERA. His only loss came with Potomac. In five games with Triple-A Syracuse, Davis had a 6.23 ERA. In 15 games for the Nationals, Kobernus hit .174 (4-for-23) with one home run and one RBI. Marrero hit .125 (2-for-16) with one RBI in eight games with the Nats.
