Right in time for FanFest, Orioles fans have been given plenty of news this week to discuss. The biggest: Buck Showalter and Dan Duquette will both be with the team for a long time. Both agreed to extensions through 2018, and they met with the media at a press conference yesterday at Camden Yards. MASN captured the full press conference, which can be viewed here, and kept you updated with all of the latest Orioles news this week. Center fielder Adam Jones is headed to the World Baseball...

Ready for spring training? Six of the Orioles' exhibition games will be broadcast on MASN HD, including a game versus the Yankees on Feb. 25. With news out of D.C. that Adam LaRoche has agreed to a two-year deal with the Nats, there has been more speculation regarding the Orioles and Michael Morse. Also, the Tigers are reportedly interested in J.J. Hardy. The Birds signed Tim Smith to a minor-league deal Tuesday. The team is also pursuing Joe Saunders, who is seeking a three-year deal. Be...

Happy new year, O's fans. With 2013 upon us, we're still waiting for news of a trade or of a signing to upgrade the Orioles' roster. While roster news is lacking, there is still plenty for Orioles fans to discuss at FanFest on Jan. 19. Former Orioles Endy Chavez and Miguel Tejada signed minor league deals with the Royals on Monday. Meanwhile, Matt Antonelli, who appeared in 29 games at Triple-A Norfolk in 2012, signed a minor league deal with the Indians yesterday. Former Double-A Bowie...

What's your all-time favorite baseball movie?

What's your all-time favorite baseball movie?
Once the calendar turns the page to a new year, it's now officially time to think about next baseball season. One of my favorite baseball quotes comes from Hall of Famer Rogers Hornsby, who famously answered a question about his offseason activities by saying, "People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." Luckily, there are a few more diversions in the modern day. If I were snowed in for an extended...

Parties have been attended, presents unwrapped (and returned), and every cookie in my arms' reach devoured. Happy Holidays, indeed. With the holidays and end of the year upon us, the baseball news has been sparse this week. Regarding the Orioles, news has been mainly limited to rumors and speculation. The notion that the Tigers could have interest in J.J. Hardy was raised. Also discussed this week was the Orioles' lack of improvement, as labeled by ESPN. In a recent ranking by David...

While the Orioles have yet to make a big splash this offseason, they made various minor moves this week, including the addition of Adam Greenberg. Greenberg, who many remember from the incident in 2005 where he was beaned by the first pitch he ever saw in the major leagues, agreed to a minor league deal with the Orioles yesterday. Greenberg had his second major league at-bat last year with the Marlins, which can be seen here. Three other players inked minor league deals this week. First...

From the hiring of a new third base coach to the Indians' acquisition of Mark Reynolds, there have been some changes around the Orioles organization this week. The Orioles have officially named their third base coach, promoting Bobby Dickerson, who has served as the team's minor league infield coordinator for the last three seasons. Reynolds signed a one-year, $6 million deal with the Indians on Sunday, making Chris Davis the likely everyday first baseman. The Orioles have also been active...

Baseball's Winter Meetings start Monday, and the Orioles released their spring training schedule yesterday. Grapefruit League play for the O's will begin Feb. 23 when they face the Twins. Although the Orioles have not yet announced who will be their new third base coach after DeMarlo Hale took the bench coach position in Toronto, they did acquire infielder Danny Valencia from the Red Sox. This offseason, the Orioles are looking for a middle-of-the-lineup hitter. Dan Duquette highlighted the...

IronBirds unveil new, more menacing logo

IronBirds unveil new, more menacing logo
The short-season Single-A Aberdeen IronBirds have a new logo, a sleek, more fearsome-looking bird to accompany the club's 12th season in the New York-Penn League as an Orioles affiliate. Gone is the smiling cartoon jet logo that had been a constant since Ripken Baseball founded the club in 2002. In its place is a much more serious avian emissary with a link to "Iron Man" - the Robert Downey Jr. film franchise, not the moniker bestowed on Cal Ripken Jr. for his consecutive-games prowess....

After clinching their first playoff berth since 1997, the Orioles are looking to lock up the same coaching staff this offseason. Jim Presley agreed to a new contract Wednesday, leaving just third base coach DeMarlo Hale as the only coach whose return is uncertain. Hale interviewed for the Blue Jays' bench coach position this week. While Brian Roberts said he is doing well health-wise, he knows that he will not have to share any time at second base with Robert Andino, who was traded to the...

One more vote, with a local tie

One more vote, with a local tie
For years, when asked why he never played in the majors, former Orioles manager Earl Weaver has cracked wise about his path to the St. Louis Cardinals being blocked by Marty Marion, a pretty good player in his own right who was nicknamed "Mr. Shortstop." Marion, who died in 2011, was a defensive whiz at a time when glove artistry was appreciated as much as the three-run homer. The guy nicknamed "Octopus" because of his propensity for getting to everything hit near him, was a career .263...

Gold Glove winner Jones rings NYSE closing bell (with video)
Before heading to the Rawlings Gold Glove Awards dinner in New York this evening, Orioles center fielder Adam Jones got the opportunity to ring the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange. Probably not the same as a walk-off home run, but still a cool perk of being designated as one of the game's top defensive players. Jones and and Jim Lillie, CEO of Jarden Corporation, the parent company of Rawlings, did the honors. Before his bell-ringing duties, Jones got a tour of the stock exchange...
