A look at the six Orioles players headed to the Arizona Fall League

Six Orioles minor league players were named to the roster of the Peoria Javelinas today for play in the Arizona Fall League. The 25th AFL season is set to begin Oct. 11 and run through the championship game Nov. 19 and the preliminary rosters were announced today.

The O's are sending right-handed pitchers Jesus Liranzo and Jimmy Yacabonis and left-handed pitcher Tanner Scott to the AFL, along with catcher Austin Wynns, infielder Adrian Marin and outfielder D.J. Stewart.

The O's players will be joined by players from Cincinnati, San Diego, Seattle and Tampa Bay on a club managed by Jared Sandberg. One of Peoria's two pitching coaches will be Justin Lord of the O's short-season Single-A Aberdeen affiliate.

The 21-year-old Liranzo from the Dominican Republic began the season with Single-A Delmarva and then was moved to Double-A Bowie, skipping Single-A Frederick. The hard-throwing Liranzo, who can throw 96 and 97 mph with a solid slider, is 1-0 with a 1.46 ERA for the two teams over 24 games. In 49 1/3 innings, he has allowed just 16 hits (for a .101 average against) with 22 walks and 61 strikeouts. He's become a notable prospect this year, to say the least, pretty much rising from not on the radar to now on it with a bullet. It will be interesting to see how he fares against some top hitters in Arizona.

Yacabonis, a 13th-round draft pick by the Orioles in 2013, has had his best year in 2016. Between Frederick and Bowie, he is 2-3 with a 2.59 ERA over 48 games. In 62 2/3 innings he has allowed 49 hits with 19 walks and 65 strikeouts.

Scott, the hard throwing lefty who has touched 100 mph, has pitched for Frederick and Bowie. He is 5-4 with a 4.91 ERA. In 62 1/3 innings he has walked 54 and fanned 78. He was in the AFL last year and made the AFL's top prospects team posting an ERA of 2.00 in eight games.

A 10th round pick in 2013, Wynns has played at three levels this year at Frederick, Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk. In 77 games, the strong defensive catcher has hit .289 with five homers, 33 RBIs and a .750 OPS.

The 22-year-old Marin has played 115 games this year as Bowie's shortstop. He is batting .231 with four homers, 33 RBIs and a .591 OPS. Marin, a third-round pick out of Gulliver Prep (Fla.) in 2012, played in the AFL last year. He hit .278 in 20 games for Peoria.

Stewart, the Orioles' first-round pick in June of 2015 out of Florida State, has played at Delmarva and Frederick this year. Between the teams over 115 games, he has hit .247 with eight homers, 53 RBIs and an OPS of .754. He was batting just .230 for Delmarva when he was moved up to Frederick. In 53 games with the Keys he is batting .268. Stewart changed from an open to a closed stance when he went to Frederick and has produced better results after making that change.
