Adam Jones talks about his MVO award

After winning his second straight Most Valuable Oriole award, Adam Jones spent a good portion of an interview on that topic discussing the other players on the team that could have earned that honor. "I think there are some other deserving guys," he said. "I've lobbied for Jim Johnson and our entire bullpen. But, at the end of the day, I appreciate it. But I couldn't do this without my teammates. They are the reason why we are where we're at. It's getting named to me, but it's a team. I think the whole team deserves it. "We're winning, so, it's cool. But there are other guys deserving. (Matt) Wieters is leading us in RBIs. CD (Chris Davis) with 30 (home runs) and 81 (RBIs). There are other guys on offense doing a great job. But I'm lucky to be named it, but I hope to share this with my teammates. We are all in this together. There are a lot of guys that have contributed in large amounts." Jones becomes the seventh Oriole to be named in back-to-back years. The other six present quite a list that includes Boog Powell, Rafael Palmeiro and four O's Hall of Famers in Cal Ripken Jr., Frank Robinson, Eddie Murray and Jim Palmer. Jones is joining some impressive company today. "That is a good list. I am not going to get ahead of myself when it comes to the Hall of Fame, trust me," Jones said. "But it's a team award, to me. My teammates are the reason why I go out there every day and give it all I've got. They feed off it, and this is a tremendous award." Jones continues to grow and improve as a player, and this is a year where he has set career highs in games (158), runs (102), hits (183), doubles (39), homers (32), steals (15), extra-base hits (74), OBP (.336), slugging (.510) and OPS (.846). "That is what you are supposed to do and is what you strive for, to progress. I'm still young, at 27, and still have a lot of innings to play out there in center field," he said. It's been quite a year for Jones. A contract extension, possible playoff berth and now this award. "What more can you ask for? But we're not done, we've got four games left," Jones said. "There is not one team that has clinched an AL playoff berth. It doesn't get any easier." A reporter mentioned to Jones the uncertainty of the next few days for the Orioles and all the possible playoff scenarios. He said that it is absolutely no issue. "Who cares? Who cares? Last year the uncertainty is there were (big) boxes around this clubhouse, (packed for the end of the season) and there were not all these cameras in my face," Jones said. "There were about four of you here, and I can name all of them. I've told my family, any convenience this may cause when it comes to travel or whatever, so what. It's a good inconvenience." Finally, Jones talked about the "Glad You Came" video that was made as a thank you to the O's fans for their support this season. Jones said it showed the true personalities of some of the players, and he really liked that about the video. "That video, when I saw the whole thing, that was pretty cool," Jones said. "You have a lot of guys here that we got out of their element. Everyone here has a personality that you guys may not get to see. They all have great personalities and are all funny in their own weird, quirky ways. To see that video is what is cool to get everyone out of their element. I respect the hell out of these guys in this clubhouse."
