Another early deficit (O's take lead)

The Orioles didn't turn a double play. They didn't come up with a sharp ground ball. They didn't put a batter away after getting ahead in the count. They didn't keep the game scoreless in the bottom of the first inning. Yes, the Orioles will play from behind again today. The Red Sox scored twice off Mitch Atkins in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead at Fenway Park. Robert Andino couldn't turn a double play on Dustin Pedroia's sharp grounder that followed Jacoby Ellsbury's leadoff single. Andino made a wide throw to first as Pedroia dived into the bag. Adrian Gonzalez walked, and Kevin Youkilis sent a hard smash to the left side that Mark Reynolds knocked down, but couldn't field cleanly, loading the bases with one out. David Ortiz lined an RBI single into center field after taking the first two pitches for strikes, and Josh Reddick lifted a sacrifice fly into left. Atkins threw 27 pitches, 17 for strikes. This is no way to rest the bullpen. Instant update: Derrek Lee hit a two-run homer over the Green Monster to tie the game, 2-2, in the second inning. Lee has three homers on this road trip. Down on the farm, Triple-A Norfolk first baseman Brandon Snyder is day-to-day with a sore hamstring. Left-hander Brian Matusz has tossed three scoreless innings against Durham, allowing three hits, walking one and striking out five. He's thrown 56 pitches, 34 for strikes. Pitch speeds aren't available on the live box score that I'm tracking. Update II: Robert Andino's bloop single into right field gave the Orioles a 3-2 lead, Nick Markakis tacked on another run with an infield hit, Adam Jones increased the lead to 5-2 with a single off the Green Monster and Markakis scored on Vladimir Guerrero's gift infield hit. Orioles 6, Red Sox 2. Guerrero naturally swung at the first pitch and grounded to short. Marco Scutaro casually flipped the ball to second, and Jones beat the throw. It shouldn't be scored a hit, but Guerrero will take it. Andino collected his seventh RBI of the season and his first since June 20.
