Cancer scare behind him, Tyler Moore wielding big bat for Harrisburg

Double-A Harrisburg Senators first baseman Tyler Moore feels very fortunate to be back and healthy on the diamond this season. The Carolina League Player of the Year put together the most memorable season of his career in 2010, slugging 31 homers and 110 RBIs as the Single-A Potomac Nationals won the Mills Cup championship. But despite all the success on the field and at the plate last season, Moore was in pain. Before and after games his right leg would be sore. He would wake up early with pain. e would go to bed with pain. Taking Advil would help a little bit, but he wondered why the pain lingered for the entire season. Moore knew it was not just fatigue from playing baseball. Early in the winter, Moore underwent an x-ray on his right leg to try to pinpoint the problem. The x-ray revealed a bone tumor in his femur. During surgery, a golf ball-sized tumor was removed from his right thigh. The tumor was found to be benign. Moore went through seven weeks of rehabbing, but was not able to lift weights. He arrived at spring training healthy and ready to go, thankful to be playing baseball again. "It was a scary experience. I feel very fortunate and blessed the tumor was found and was benign," he said. "The Lord was watching over me and my family." Moore is grateful to be completely healthy and back on the field. And on the field, Moore is once again delivering. On Thursday, Moore crushed two home runs as the Senators downed the Altoona Curve 6-2. It was the first two-homer game of the season for Harrisburg. In his last 10 games, Moore is batting .326 with three homers and six RBIs. "I was fortunate to hit them out," Moore said. "Last night, we were kind of dreading the 10 a.m. start, but it turned out to be a good thing. I got some fastballs and was able to get them out of the park."
