Davis, Burgess moving to Bowie and other O's notes

Two outfielders are moving up today on the Orioles farm. Outfielders Glynn Davis and Michael Burgess are moving from Single-A Frederick to Double-A Bowie and are expected to be in the Baysox lineup tonight.

The 22-year-old Davis, a Baltimore native, was batting .295 with one homer and 31 RBIs for the Keys. In 89 games, he has a .363 OBP, .386 slugging percentage, a .750 OPS and 20 steals in 28 attempts. According to Baseball America, he is the Orioles' No. 29 prospect.

The 25-year-old Burgess was batting .315 with 32 doubles, four triples, 15 homers and 68 RBIs for the Keys. Burgess has an OPS of .946 in 83 games. He was a Nationals high draft pick, taken 49th overall in the 2007 draft out of a Tampa, Fla., high school.

The duo joins Mike Yastrzemski, who was also recently promoted to Double-A from Frederick, in the Bowie outfield. In corresponding moves today, outfielders John Ruettiger and Chih-Hsien Chiang are going from Bowie to Frederick.

Meanwhile, when Orioles right-hander Bud Norris pitched for Bowie a week ago yesterday, his final line was not that great. He went 4 1/3 innings, giving up four hits and three runs with five walks and seven strikeouts.

But Norris threw 99 pitches, got his work in and stayed on a schedule that may have helped keep him sharp for his outing last night.

Norris came off the DL to face Washington on July 9 and gave up five runs over four innings. Maybe he needed to get more work in after that outing to be ready for last night. He got the work and you can't argue with the results he got in Anaheim.

Norris gave up two runs (one earned) over 6 2/3 innings against the highest-scoring team in Major League Baseball. The Angels went into that game averaging 5.6 runs per game while going a major league-best 28-10 since June 6.

The earned run Norris gave up last night was just the second he's allowed in 34 2/3 career innings against the Angels. He has a 4-0 record and 0.52 ERA in five career starts against Los Angeles.

Over his last five starts this year, Norris has a 2.37 ERA and has given up one earned run or less in four of those five starts.

More notes on the O's:

* Adam Jones recently had a 10-game stretch where he drove in just one run. But over his last three games, he is 4-for-12 with three homers and nine RBIs.

* Each time Jones homered last night, Nick Markakis scored ahead of him. Markakis is 6-for-12 over his last three games with four runs and a double.

* On offense, the Orioles have been held to seven hits or fewer in eight of their last nine games. They've been held to nine hits the last two games. In the nine-game stretch, the O's are batting .207 with 30 runs scored.

* The Orioles are now 13-8 against the American League West. Their .619 winning percentage is the best against the West by another AL team. Detroit is second at .593.
