Gausman vs. Nova tonight in the Bronx

The Orioles will play their 91st game tonight and finally make their first visit to Yankee Stadium.

We've figured out the rotation, at least the current version of it. Dylan Bundy and Vance Worley have joined Chris Tillman, Yovani Gallardo and Kevin Gausman. It's just a question of how long before more adjustments are made.

Is this a one-and-done for Worley on Tuesday? Does he control his own fate?

Tyler Wilson is lurking in the Triple-A shadows, and less rust on Friday night might have gotten him to the Bronx. He needs at least one more start in the minors.

As for Bundy, we're just assuming that he starts again Friday night against the Indians at Camden Yards. The series matchups haven't been made public.

"I told you all this spring that the worst possible scenario this year was that he was healthy and didn't pitch well," said manager Buck Showalter. "That's a problem."

It hasn't surfaced. Bundy is, indeed, healthy. He's also pitching at a level that enables him to crack the rotation for the first time in the majors.

"I don't know what the word is," Showalter said. "There's no anxiety about it. We know we've done everything possible to build up to this point. I don't know what other step you can take.

"Some people in the past would mess around with the DL so they could get him a few starts down there. We wouldn't do that. That's not legal."

Segue alert: Wasting a good outing is a crime, and the Orioles have been guilty of it with Gausman, who's 1-6 with a 4.14 ERA in 15 starts. However, he's allowed seven runs and 16 hits in 11 innings in two starts this month, though he's walked only one and struck out 13.

Gausman has walked two batters over his last four starts covering 23 2/3 innings.

Showalter held back Gausman until tonight because he wanted the right-hander pitching against the Yankees. They were shut out on three hits over eight innings against him on May 5 and managed only one run in six innings on June 5, with the Orioles winning both games.

Gausman is 3-2 with a 2.22 ERA in 13 career games (seven starts) against the Yankees and 1-1 with a 3.05 ERA in six games (three starts) in the Bronx. He's 1-1 with a 2.79 ERA in six home starts this season and 0-5 with a 5.25 ERA in nine road starts.

Brett Gardner is 6-for-16 with two doubles and a home run against Gausman, and Alex Rodriguez is 5-for-11 with a double and two home runs.

Brian McCann is 3-for-17 and Jacoby Ellsbury is 4-for-22.

Ivan Nova gets the start tonight for the Yankees unless he's traded. Heck, pretty much everyone is available, including Nathan Eovaldi and Michael Pineda, who follow Nova in the rotation.

Nova is 6-5 with a 5.18 ERA in 18 games (12 starts), and he hasn't completed six innings in his last five outings. He posted a 7.52 ERA in five June starts.

Nova allowed five runs and seven hits over six innings in a June 4 game at Camden Yards. He's 7-4 with a 5.22 ERA in 16 career games (15 starts) versus the Orioles.

The current group is batting .302 against him. Matt Wieters is 13-for-37 with three doubles and four home runs, Mark Trumbo is 10-for-19 with a double and three home runs, J.J. Hardy is 11-for-37 with two doubles and a home run, and Chris Davis is 9-for-32 with two doubles, three home runs and 10 RBIs.

Adam Jones is 8-for-43 with two doubles and a home run, and Manny Machado is 4-for-22 with a double and home run.

Hardy has a 10-game hitting streak. He's batting .385 (15-for-39) during that stretch.

Bundy was the eighth pitcher in club history to allow three or more home runs in his first start with the club, and the first since Josh Stinson in 2013.

The Orioles hadn't allowed a home run in 58 consecutive innings before yesterday, not since Justin Turner connected in the first inning of a July 6 game at Dodger Stadium.

Pedro Alvarez has homered in consecutive games for the first time since Aug. 16-17, 2015. He's one of three American League hitters with double-digit home runs and none versus left-handers, joining the Rays' Corey Dickerson and the Mariners' Seth Smith.

Donnie Hart became the sixth Oriole to make his major league debut this season, joining Joey Rickard, Hyun Soo Kim, Jayson Aquino, Ariel Miranda and Ashur Tolliver.
