Guerrero singles in his first Bowie at-bat; Mahoney drives him in (updated)

BOWIE, Md. - In his first minor league at-bat since May 23, 2009, Vladimir Guerrero lined a single to left here tonight in the first inning on a 1-0 pitch for the Double-A Bowie Baysox. Guerrero has been on the disabled list with a fractured right wrist and could return to the Orioles soon. He is batting .279 with seven homers and 31 RBIs on the year for the Orioles. Guerrero is the DH and batting second in the Bowie lineup. Before he hit, Cesar Izturis led off and grounded out on a 1-1 pitch when he hit a grounder to third base, right near the bag on the infield grass. They were batting against Trenton Thunder lefty Shaeffer Hall, who is 8-4 with an ERA of 4.06. He was the Yankees' 25th-round pick in 2009. Joe Mahoney unloaded them, smoking a three-run double to right-center for a 3-0 Baysox lead. The Baysox lead 3-0 after one inning. In the top of the first, Bowie's Oliver Drake, making his fifth Double-A start of the year, retired the side in order on a grounder and two strikeouts. The Baysox have been playing excellent baseball, winning four in a row and they are 17-4 in July to move to within one game of first place.
