Hammel can't snap winless streak (O's lose 7-3)

Jason Hammel will head into the All-Star break still searching for his first win since May 27. He's also got to be searching for some answers. Hammel's record remains above .500 - currently 7-5 as we head to the bottom of the seventh - and he's gone at least six innings in six of his last seven starts. However, he can't get that elusive victory and he can't lower his ERA, which is up to 5.24. Hammel left today's game with no outs in the seventh after hitting No. 9 batter Emilio Bonifacio and walking Jose Reyes. Jairo Asencio, pitching for the second consecutive game, allowed an RBI double to Jose Bautista and issued an intentional walk to Edwin Encarnacion to load the bases. Bautista was 0-for-8 with four strikeouts in the series. Bautista was down 0-2 in the count. Catcher Matt Wieters called for a changeup, and Bautista smoked it. Troy Patton replaced Asencio, and Adam Lind hit into a fielder's choice after his screaming liner deflected off first baseman Chris Davis' mitt. Davis thought he made the catch and attempted to tag Encarnacion for the double play. Colby Rasmus also hit into a fielder's choice to complete Hammel's line. It's not pretty. The Orioles trail 7-3. Hammel is charged with six runs and 10 hits, with two walks, one strikeout and one home run. He threw 99 pitches, 58 for strikes. The 10 hits tied Hammel's season high on May 17 against Tampa Bay. The six runs were the most since he allowed seven in that same game. Update: The Orioles' three-game winning streak came to an end today, as they fell to the Blue Jays 7-3 before a sellout crowd of 46,150 at Camden Yards. They put two runners on base in the eighth, but J.J. Hardy was thrown out trying to bunt for a hit with two outs. All-Star Steve Delabar walked Matt Wieters to open the bottom of the ninth and pinch-hitter Ryan Flaherty singled with one out to put runners on the corners. Casey Janssen replaced Delabar and got a called third strike on Nate McLouth, who didn't agree with plate umpire Angel Hernandez. Manny Machado struck out swinging. No dispute there. Nolan Reimold was 0-for-3 with three strikeouts before Flaherty pinch-hit for him. He heard some boos today.
