Hammel going on disabled list (updated)

The news is coming in waves at Camden Yards. The Orioles acquired pitcher Bud Norris and International Signing Bonus Slot No. 91 from the Astros this afternoon for outfielder LJ Hoes and minor league left-hander Josh Hader - both local products - and the 2014 Draft Competitive Balance Pick-Round A, Selection No 2. That's not all. Jason Hammel is being placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sore right arm. He's eligible to return on Aug. 13. Also, outfielder Steve Pearce will be taken off his injury-rehab assignment, activated from the disabled list and added to the 25-man roster. Pearce, who played last night at Single-A Frederick, will start in left field or serve as the designated hitter. If Pearce is the DH, Adam Jones will start in center field and Nate McLouth will move to left. Hammel will undergo an MRI on his right arm after experiencing soreness in the flexor mass area. It's especially painful when he attempts to throw his slider. Manager Buck Showalter said Hammel's arm is "better some days than others," and the Orioles want to get the issue resolved. Showalter isn't sure when Norris will make his Orioles debut. He only knows that the right-hander won't wear No. 20 anymore. Not available in Baltimore. Hoes is in Houston's lineup tonight. Showalter told him, "You know that we're going to change the signs." Hoes replied, "I didn't know them anyway." Good stuff. Reliever Jairo Asencio cleared waivers and accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Norfolk. More to come on this incredibly busy day.
