The Orioles have acquired right-hander Bud Norris from the Astros ahead of the 4 p.m. non-waiver trading deadline. To get the veteran starter, they had to part with outfielder LJ Hoes and minor league pitcher Josh Hader, a left-hander who was a 19th-round draft pick in 2012.
In the trade, consummated at about 3:30 p.m., that the Orioles also sent the Astros the second selection in Round A of the competitive balance lottery in the 2014 draft.
The deal will require Hoes and Norris to switch clubhouses before the middle game of the three-game set between the teams at Camden Yards. Hoes was in tonight's Orioles lineup, playing left field. The 28-year-old Norris, who is 6-9 with a 3.93 ERA in 21 starts, was scheduled to start Tuesday's series opener, but was scratched as the Astros tried to trade him.
Update: The Orioles also acquired international bonus slot No. 91 from the Astros.
