The Orioles expect the rain to clear out of the area tonight by 6 p.m., allowing them to play the Yankees in the second game of their series.
Matt Wieters got five at-bats today in extended spring training - three from the left side and two from the right - and threw from 150 feet.
"You can tell he's feeling pretty good," said manager Buck Showalter.
Showalter said it's possible that Wieters will be playing in rehab games by the end of April, though he's hoping it happens earlier.
Jimmy Paredes played seven innings today at extended spring training. He'll get into one more game on Wednesday and sit down with Showalter the following day to discuss the next plan of action.
Paredes is expected to join J.J. Hardy on a rehab assignment at Double-A Bowie, which begins its first homestand on Thursday.
Hardy is close to being ready to play. Showalter said the shortstop still has a "little catch" in his left shoulder at the end of his swing. Once that's gone, he can get real at-bats in minor league games.
Wesley Wright is headed to Sarasota on Wednesday and will be shut down for at least a week after an MRI revealed inflammation in his left shoulder. He's hoping to be ready to pitch in a month rather than six weeks.
"I knew it was something a little serious," said Wright, who informed the team of the pain behind his shoulder after his appearance on Friday. "When I initially talked to you guys, I told you I was a little concerned. I have a good feel for my body and I just kind of felt this wasn't just normal soreness or whatever it might be. That's why I wanted to go ahead and get to the root of it early in the season where it wouldn't put me in a place where I wouldn't be able to contribute.
"Hopefully, I can get this taken care of, get back here and be able to help out in the bullpen. That's my main concern right now. I feel like I kind of let the team down and the boys down not being able to be contributing right now, but just got to get healthy and then I'll be able to show the real me.
"I'm really disappointed. There's a lot at stake over here and we've had a tough week here with usage in the bullpen, so I'd love to be out there helping out, but I need to get healthy. I feel that if I get healthy I'll really be able to contribute and do what I was brought here to do."
Wright's trip to Sarasota makes his situation more painful.
"Definitely," he said. "This is the first time I've ever experienced anything like this, being away from my teammates during the course of a season. I think it's actually going to motivate me to push through this thing and get back here as soon as possible.
"Being away and not being able to compete is the toughest thing for me. I love playing baseball, I love being out there in the bullpen with the guys, so the last couple days have been really tough, but I'm starting to get adjusted to the idea and now it's just about getting healthy."
Wright was diagnosed with a strained left trapezius muscle.
"It's mostly just inflammation," he said. "I think once we get the inflammation out, we'll be able to really see the extent of the damage. If the inflammation goes and I'm able to just proceed normally, I think that's the best news possible. I think that's going to be the main thing, the inflammation, and if I get past that point, strengthen the shoulder and I should be well on my way back.
"The main thing is they said we're going to at least do nothing for a week. Once I get down to Florida I think there will be more of a timeline, once I get down there and they really get to gauge the strength of my shoulder. And if I pass the different tests they have set up for me, I think things will start to get rolling a little bit here."
Wright now regrets not informing the Orioles of his shoulder pain before his last outing.
"I'm the type of person I like to be out there competing," he said. "I don't like to miss time, so I think it kind of hurt me in the sense that probably earlier like when it first initially came up if I had said something, I probably could have cut down on the missed time, but you want to be out there playing. Once it got to the point where it wasn't getting any better, I decided it's just not doing any good to myself or the team to try to be a hero at that point. So hopefully I caught it at the right time and I can be back and helping out."
