Kevin Gausman talks about Yankees' rally against him in eighth

After Kevin Gausman retired the Yankees in order in the top of the seventh, getting two strikeouts, he had pitched 10 shutout innings this season with 12 strikeouts against the Yankees. But they got to him fast an inning later. An Alex Rodriguez double was followed by a Robinson Cano single to tie the game at 4-4. Alfonso Soriano then hit a two-run homer the Yankees had a quick 6-4 lead on the rookie right-hander on their way to a 7-5 win over the Orioles. "Kind of missed my spot against A-Rod," Gausman said. "He dropped the bat head on it and started off the inning with a double. Made a good pitch to Cano and got a ground ball but it happened to find a spot. Made a good fastball down in the zone to Soriano and he just kind of went down and got it. "You could definitely tell he (Soriano) was kind of on tonight but it was a good pitch, down in the zone. You know, a little bit too much on the plate. Was looking to throw a fastball low and and away and it was low and down the middle." Gausman reiterated that there was one pitch that inning that he missed big on with location and it was the double that started the rally. "I really missed my spot on the pitch to A-Rod," Gausman said. "Was supposed to be a fastball away and it was down and in. Soriano hit a good pitch." The O's had him on the mound in a big spot tonight and he said it was disappointing that New York rallied against him, handing him his fifth loss in seven decisions. "Definitely, especially when I was the reason it all started," Gausman said. "Kind of floodgates opened right there and you could definitely feel it take some wind out of us but hopefully tomorrow we can bounce back." Miguel Gonzalez talked about the sixth inning, where he gave up a pair of solo homers as New York rallied to within 4-3. Their comeback in the eighth denied him a career-high 10th win. "I threw five and gave up one run in the third inning, but late in the ballgame, those fastballs there were middle up and that was tough against that offense," Gonzalez said. "I felt confident coming in, things just didn't work out the way we wanted to. The third time around they can get to that fastball, just got to bring it down a little more. "Of course it hurts (the loss). We put up four runs in the fifth inning and I just got to come in and try to minimize the damage and it didn't work out." Manny Machado said the O's just have to move on from the defeat that evened the four-game series. "Came out with a loss," Machado said. "Miguel pitched a great game and kept us in there. Lot of baseball to be played and tomorrow is a new day. Right now we can't worry about other teams, if they win they win. We will keep playing our baseball. We haven't put it together but we'll just keep playing and it is just about winning games right now."
