LaCava staying with Blue Jays (updated twice)

Tony LaCava has decided to remain with the Toronto Blue Jays as assistant general manager, and the Orioles are discussing the possibility of bringing in more outside candidates. Apparently, LaCava was ready to accept an offer from the Orioles until flying back into Baltimore yesterday for a second meeting. I'm told the issues that cropped up for LaCava didn't involve ownership or manager Buck Showalter. However, a deal couldn't be reached. The Orioles have interviewed four candidates, including Jerry Dipoto - who was hired as the Angels' general manager - and Dodgers executive De Jon Watson. The only internal candidate so far is director of player development John Stockstill. With LaCava staying in Toronto, the Orioles might have to expand that list. One name that's come up is A.J. Preller, the Rangers' senior director of player personnel. Update: I've talked to multiple people who are close to LaCava, and a few within the organization. Here's what I've been told: LaCava wasn't concerned with possible interference from ownership or Showalter in the daily operations of the ballclub. Money also wasn't an issue. However, there were disagreements over some personnel moves he wanted to make. Also, LaCava is happy in Toronto. If the situation didn't suit him perfectly, he wasn't going to leave. But he most certainly was willing to do so at one point or he wouldn't have come to Baltimore twice for interviews. Update II: I'm also hearing that LaCava had the authority to bring in multiple people from the Blue Jays and outside the organization. He could have done some reshaping of the organization. And he apparently left Baltimore yesterday still encouraged about the job, which is what I heard and wrote yesterday. Also, definitely look for more candidates to be interviewed.
