More on Gonzalez, and Showalter on Machado

Orioles starter Miguel Gonzalez, on the disabled list with a strained right oblique, expects to report to Double-A Bowie within the next few days to begin an injury rehab assignment. Gonzalez is eligible to come off the DL on Sunday. Chris Tillman currently is slated to make that start against the Blue Jays at Camden Yards. "I'm feeling great, other than my sinuses. It's going around. But I think it's a lot better," Gonzalez said. "Play catch today and then we'll talk about it after I'm done. We'll probably decide to go and maybe go to Bowie and throw four or five innings, whatever it is for me to come back and start. I'm not exactly aware of what day it would be, but it might be tomorrow or it might be Thursday. We don't know. But it should be this week for sure." The Orioles shutout last night was their first against the Red Sox since July 26, 2013. Adam Jones' 147 home runs with the Orioles rank 11th on the franchise's all-time list. He needs four more to tie Chris Hoiles for 10th place. Manager Buck Showalter said he didn't notice any differences in Manny Machado this spring or into the regular season other than the condition of the third baseman's left knee. "This is a guy who's been the best of the best everywhere he's been," Showalter said. "The first time he had some really serious knee surgery, and a lot of things have been different in his life. When he's here with us February through we hope the end of October, he's fine. I can't tell you what happens once the season's over. I don't think anybody can. We all make decisions about who we surround ourselves with, we all go back to what our mom's said - you are who you hang around. I know for seven or eight months, I know who he's hanging around, for the most part. "He's a good kid. He means well and he just made a bad decision. What made everybody talk about him being that mature? Was it the statistics? What was it? So, that would be the question I would ask. I think he's shown maturity in the way he's handled this, but I can tell you what, he's had some really good advice from his teammates."
