Notes on Machado, Markakis and the rotation, Stroman on suspension

Orioles third baseman Manny Machado was supposed to fly into Baltimore tonight, but he's going to stay in Los Angeles for another week while continuing to rehab his right knee. Machado is expected to join the Orioles on Sept. 29. Machado's knee is fine. No red flags. Apparently, his doctor suggested that he stay in Los Angeles a little longer and stay on his current rehab schedule. Right fielder Nick Markakis told Showalter that his left shoulder is sore after being hit last night by Blue Jays reliever Aaron Loup. Markakis could have played tonight, but there's no reason to force him into the lineup. Markakis is expected to play Friday following the off day. Adam Jones is likely to be rested that night. Asked whether Ubaldo Jimenez will make another start before the regular season ends, Showalter replied, "Maybe." Showalter wants to get through the weekend first before considering it. Kevin Gausman, Chris Tillman and Miguel Gonzalez will start the weekend series against the Red Sox at Camden Yards. Allen Webster, Rubby De La Rosa and Joe Kelly are listed as Boston's starters. Major League Baseball suspended Toronto right-hander Marcus Stroman six games and fined him an undisclosed amount after he threw a pitch behind Caleb Joseph's head. "It's tough," Stroman told reporters. "It's in the appeal process now. I would never intentionally throw at anyone. I respect the game. I respect the players too much to ever do anything like that. Family, friends, teammates know the type of individual I am. "I'm not surprised just being the game that it was. We'll see how it plays out." Stroman said he's in the process of reaching out to Joseph "through a friend." "It's fairly new," he said. "Obviously, I would never throw at someone's head. It's not in my nature. That's pretty much it. That's not in my game. It's something I would never do. It doesn't make sense to me."
