O's done in by the longball again in loss to A's

It has been a homestand where Orioles pitchers have simply given up too many homers. And it happened again tonight. Oakland homered three times in the first five innings and five times in the game to beat the Orioles 10-3 at Camden Yards.

The A's (8-8) have won two of three in this series. The Orioles (5-7) are 1-5 on this homestand and have lost six of seven since their 4-1 start.

O's pitchers began this game leading the majors in homers allowed with 27. They've given up 23 in the six games of this homestand.

Making his first O's start, right-hander Dan Straily allowed two hits but no runs in the first inning. But he gave up a run in the second and two in the third and fourth, as Oakland quickly moved ahead.

He yielded Chad Pinder's solo homer and a two-run shot in the fourth by Jurickson Profar. His second homer in two games made it 5-0 in the fourth.

Straily went 3 1/3 innings, allowing eight hits and five runs on 66 pitches. Straily, who pitched for Oakland from 2009-2014, has an ERA of 19.29 after two games. He has thrown 4 2/3 innings and given up four homers and 10 runs.

It didn't get better for lefty Josh Rogers, who was called up today. He allowed five runs and three homers in 3 2/3 innings as Oakland built a 10-3 lead.

Khris Davis hit two homers off him, his sixth and seventh of this year. Davis' solo shot to right in the seventh was his 200th career homer and produced his 23rd multi-homer game and first of this year.

While the O's were falling behind big, their hitters were being retired quickly by A's right-hander Frankie Montas. He retired the first 12 batters on 41 pitches, showing a fastball that ranged from 96 to 98 mph.

The Orioles finally got to him in the home sixth. Trey Mancini led the inning with another opposite field homer. He hit No. 6 on a 2-0 fastball at 95 mph and has 12 RBIs to lead the club. Renato Núñez singled and then scored on a Rio Ruiz two-run homer to right. He connected on a 95 mph heater for his first homer as an Oriole and the fifth of his career.

But O's pitching allowed 10 or more runs for the third time in four games. They'll need a win on Thursday at 12:35 p.m. to split this four-game series before they start a seven-game road trip to Boston and Tampa Bay.
