Ohlman traded to Cardinals

A week after being designated for assignment, catcher Michael Ohlman is changing organizations. The Orioles announced today that they traded Ohlman, 24, to the St. Louis Cardinals for cash considerations. They removed him from the 40-man roster on Jan. 27 to create room for outfielder Travis Snider. Ohlman batted .236/.310/.318 with two home runs and 33 RBIs in 113 games last season with Double-A Bowie. He won the Carolina League batting title in 2013 after hitting .313/.410/.524 with 29 doubles, four triples, 13 home runs and 53 RBIs in 100 games at Single-A Frederick. Ohlman attended the minicamp last month in Sarasota. He noted that the move to Double-A was "quite a big adjustment." "I thought the numbers weren't quite there, but maybe I was a little unlucky, and the numbers really don't say everything," Ohlman said. "I'm the hardest on myself, harder than anybody. I'm my biggest critic. I just try to stay positive and take it day to day and see what happens, control what I can. Everything else is out of my hands. "I've got to feel that I'm better than (the pitchers) are. They can't beat me. I can't give them too much credit, but it does take a pretty big leap there. It was just another learning curve I need to go through." The Orioles selected Ohlman in the 11th round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of Lakewood Ranch (Fla.) High School. They most likely would have moved him to a new position if he remained in the organization. The 40-man roster currently includes catchers Matt Wieters, Caleb Joseph and Steve Clevenger. The Orioles also will bring catchers J.P. Arencibia, Ryan Lavarnway and Brian Ward to camp.
