"Orioles Classic" rewind: Walk-off heroes and a seven-homer barrage

The Orioles' season ended in Toronto almost a month ago. The World Series could be over as soon as tomorrow night in Cleveland. The baseball offseason is looming, like some cruel trick played on an unsuspecting Halloween reveler. Is it time for pitchers and catchers to report yet?

But we've got a treat for you. Well, several of them, actually. This week starts a new offseason of "Orioles Classics" on MASN.

Regular viewers know the drill, but we'll do a quick reset just in case you're a newcomer. Each week, we'll hit the rewind button to remember some of the most exciting Orioles baseball of recent vintages. It could be a memorable game or a contest featuring some sort of historic performance. Whatever it is, you know it's a way to connect with your beloved Birds while you wait for next season to begin.

This week's "Orioles Classics" feature game-winning hits delivered by two key members of the black and orange - catcher Matt Wieters and third baseman Manny Machado - along with a seven-homer outburst against the Red Sox.

Tuesday, Nov. 1, 9 a.m. - The White Sox flexed the muscle with home runs by Dayan Viciedo and Connor Gillaspie, but the Orioles got the last laugh in this Sept. 7, 2013 game at Camden Yards. Wieters hit a walk-off single in the 10th, scoring pinch-runner Chris Dickerson for a 4-3 victory.

Tuesday, Nov. 1, 7 p.m. - What's better than one Wieters walk-off? How about a pair? The backstop with a flair for the dramatic also came through in the season opener on April 4, 2016, crushing a two-out RBI single off Kevin Jepson for a 3-2 win that sent a sellout crowd at Camden Yards into a frenzy and home happy.

Thursday, Nov. 3, 9 a.m. - Grab a second cup of coffee and toast an extra English muffin as you wait for Machado to come through in the clutch on Aug. 14. Spoiler alert: You'll need to wait a while, as it took 13 innings before Machado lined a two-run walk-off homer to left as the O's claimed the second of three games in what would be a weekend sweep of the A's.

Thursday, Nov. 3, 7 p.m. - Everyone loves beating the Red Sox, and the Orioles came up with the perfect powerful recipe to silence the Boston faithful who ventured south for a June 2, 2016 game against the eventual American League East champs. The Birds battered Boston pitchers for seven homers, including a pair each from Mark Trumbo and Adam Jones. Machado, Pedro Alvarez and Francisco Pena joined in the longball barrage in a 12-7 slugfest victory.
