Orioles end Lackey's quality starts streak

I certainly was not aware of this stat, but Boston pitcher John Lackey entered tonight's start against the Orioles with 15 straight quality starts against the Birds since August 3, 2005. That is the longest run ever against the Orioles. The good news is the O's ended the run tonight. The bad news is Lackey has a 11-5 lead after the third inning. He can still be the winning pitcher in this game. He had allowed more then three earned runs just once in 18 career starts against the Orioles, until tonight. His career record, coming into this start, was 11-4 with an ERA of 2.89. That is his best ERA against any AL opponent. But Lackey is 12-12 with an ERA of 6.19 this year and is 7-7 with an ERA of 6.18 in 16 Fenway Park starts. But early on, Brian Matusz was even worse then Lackey and gave up six hits and six runs over 1 2/3 innings. The Orioles will need at least 12 runs if they are going to win this game tonight.

Matusz makes wrong kind of history (it's really 18...
No more for Matusz? (O's trying to rally)
