Orioles exchange salary figures with four players

The Orioles and pitcher Jeremy Guthrie are $3 million apart after exchanging salary figures earlier today. Guthrie is requesting $10.25 million, and the Orioles countered at $7.25 million. He earned $5.75 million last season while going 9-17 with a 4.33 ERA in 34 games and 208 innings. Adam Jones submitted a figure of $7.4 million, and the Orioles countered at $5 million. Jones made $3.25 million last season and was named Most Valuable Oriole after batting .280/.319/.466 with 26 doubles, two triples, 25 homers and 83 RBIs. Robert Andino is seeking $1.6 million, and the Orioles have offered $1 million. Andino made $421,000 last season while batting .263/.327/.344 with 22 doubles, five homers and 36 RBIs. He became the primary second baseman as the summer progressed. Brad Bergesen, a non-tender candidate earlier this winter, is seeking $1.2 million. The Orioles are offering $800,000. He was 2-7 with a 5.70 ERA in 34 appearances, including 12 starts. Hearing dates will be scheduled for the four players, but negotiations will continue. The Orioles haven't gone to arbitration since 2006, when Rodrigo Lopez lost his case and could barely hide his frustration and disappointment when he returned to spring training.
