Orioles partner with Catholic Relief Services to host the "10,000 Meal Challenge" to fight hunger

The Orioles today announced a new partnership with Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Helping Hands, a volunteer meal-packaging program, to host the 10,000 Meal Challenge - a fundraising effort aimed at sending 10,000 meals to the women and children of Burkina Faso, West Africa. The Orioles and CRS Helping Hands will host a meal-packaging event at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Saturday, August 20, from 10:15 a.m. to noon in which teams who reach certain fundraising levels will be invited to participate along with former Orioles players and Orioles staff.

Through the 10,000 Meal Challenge fundraising program, for every 50 cents raised, CRS Helping Hands can provide one meal to our under-fed global neighbors and fund projects that help families support themselves. Fundraising teams that raise $500 (to fund at least 1,000 meals) will receive five tickets to the August 20 meal-packaging event, as well as 10 tickets to the Orioles game against the Toronto Blue Jays on August 31, at 7:05 p.m.Participating fundraising teams can earn one additional invitation to the meal-packaging event and two additional tickets to the Orioles game against Toronto for every additional $100 raised. For a limited time, anyone who donates $20 or more will receive a 50-percent off coupon for up to six tickets to a future Value or Classic Orioles game, subject to availability. Some restrictions may apply.

The Orioles are committed to fighting hunger locally, nationally, and internationally on a year-round basis. Each year, the Orioles host the annual OriolesREACH Food & Funds Drive at Oriole Park in addition to hosting food collections in their southern home of Sarasota, Fla. By partnering with the Catholic Relief Services Helping Hands, the Orioles hope to provide hunger-relief and bring awareness to the issue of hunger on an international level.
