Orioles select contract of Pridie, place Machado on 60-day DL

The Orioles today announced that they have selected the contract of outfielder Jason Pridie from Triple-A Norfolk. To make room for him on the 40-man roster, infielder Manny Machado has been placed on the 60-day disabled list, retroactive to September 24, with a tear of the medial patellofemoral ligament of the left knee. Pridie, 29, batted .269/.333/.434 in 118 games for the Tides and was named an International League All-Star. He led IL outfielders with a .996 fielding percentage, making one error in 267 total chances. Pridie also led the Tides in games (118), hits (129), home runs (15), doubles (24), RBI (57), total bases (208), runs (69) and at-bats (479). Machado, 21, had started every game for the Orioles after having his contract selected on August 9, 2012 until Monday's injury ended his season. He batted .283/.314/.432 in 156 games for the Orioles this season, leading the American League with 51 doubles.
