Orioles set rotation for Dodgers series (O's down 10-2)

The Orioles have chosen left-hander Ty Blach to start the series opener against the Dodgers on Tuesday night at Camden Yards.

Blach is tabbed as the fifth starter in the rotation. Left-hander John Means and Dylan Bundy are starting the other two games.

The Dodgers are sending Walker Buehler, Ross Stripling and left-hander Rich Hill to the mound.

Blach has made 13 career appearances against the Dodgers, including seven starts, and posted a 2.82 ERA over 60 2/3 innings. He's struck out only 31 batters.

Being left-handed and having some familiarity with the Dodgers gave Blach the edge over Gabriel Ynoa for the start.

"And the bottom line is we wanted to push Means and Bundy back a day, so give them an extra day and Ty will get the start against the Dodgers," said manager Brandon Hyde.

The Dodgers own the best record in the National League at 92-52. Hyde still tracks the league after serving as a coach with the Marlins and Cubs.

"I still follow the National League, I still watch all the highlights and read up on how things are going and see how well they're doing," he said.

"They're a really tough team to play against. They have really good starting pitching. We're going to see Walker Buehler on Tuesday and Walker's 98 mph with great stuff. They've always mixed and matched well out of the bullpen and their lineup is incredibly athletic. They can do so many things, they have so many moveable parts.

"Guys that come up usually have success. They have speed, they have huge power and a lot of versatile guys. So they're a tough team to play against. But we still have the Rangers one more game."

Hyde also is following Double-A Bowie's path to the Eastern League championship series, only the second appearance for the Baysox in the franchise's 27-year history.

Bowie overcame a 7-23 start, the worst in the minors.

The Baysox defeated Harrisburg yesterday 12-5, with Cedric Mullins going 5-for-6 and hitting for the cycle.

"It's great to see," Hyde said. "I saw Cedric had a big night last night, which is fantastic. (Yusniel) Diaz has done some nice things there in the postseason. So yeah, that's exciting for one of our teams with some prospects on it to do well and hope they continue and pulling for them."

Update: Nick Solak's RBI single off Asher Wojciechowski in the first inning gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead.

Update II: Shin-Soo Choo had an RBI single in the second and Solak delivered a two-run single for a 4-0 lead. But Renato Núñez led off the bottom half with his 29th home run.

Update III: Ronald Guzmán led off the third with a home run off Ynoa for a 5-1 lead.

Update IV: Rougned Odor homered off Ynoa in the fourth for a 6-1 lead.

Update V: Pedro Severino doubled to score Jonathan Villar with two outs in the fifth and cut the lead to 6-2.

Update VI: Dillon Tate was charged with three runs in the sixth, the last after Paul Fry replaced him, and the Rangers lead 9-2. Tate loaded the bases with no outs on two walks and a hit batter.

Update VII: Solak had a run-scoring single off David Hess in the seventh.
