Orioles snap five-game losing streak with a 5-2 win

NEW YORK - Andrew Cashner was working on a one-hit shutout tonight with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning when Aaron Judge strolled to the plate and launched a home run to right-center field to break a scoreless tie.

Masahiro Tanaka was working on a three-hit shutout in the top of the seventh when Jonathan Schoop led off with a single and Adam Jones lifted a fly ball to left field that eluded Giancarlo Stanton's leaping attempt for a two-run homer and a 2-1 lead.

Pitching lines and a game were given extreme makeovers.

Anthony Santander contributed an RBI double in the seventh, Trey Mancini had a two-run single and the Orioles ended their five-game losing streak with a 5-2 victory over the Yankees in the Bronx.

Cashner earned his first win as an Oriole in his debut at Yankee Stadium, allowing one run and two hits over six innings and throwing 100 pitches. He walked three batters and struck out five and his fastball crept into the mid-90s.

Mychal Givens allowed a run in the bottom of the seventh, but Darren O'Day stranded two inherited runners and three of his own in the eighth after a walk and two hit batters. Brad Brach recorded the Orioles' first save of 2018, striking out Brandon Drury and Brett Gardner after a one-out walk, and they improved to 2-5.

Givens has surrendered three runs and five hits in four innings in his four appearances.

O'Day fielded Neil Walker's one-hopper to leave the bases loaded in the eighth.

Tanaka retired 10 in a row before Schoop's single and he was gone after Tim Beckham singled with one out in the seventh. Chad Green entered the game and gave up a single to Colby Rasmus, Santander's double and Mancini's third hit of the night from atop the order.

Three runs were charged to Tanaka and two to Green.

Jones also doubled with two outs in the first inning, but a safe call on Mancini at the plate was reversed upon review. Mancini was trying to score from first base after his leadoff single.

Third baseman Miguel Andújar couldn't backhand Jones' grounder and Mancini appeared to beat catcher Gary Sanchez's tag despite the ball arriving ahead of him. His hand touched the plate while Sanchez tagged his chest.

Both of Cashner's walks in the second inning came on four pitches, but Tyler Austin grounded into a 4-6-3 double play to get him back in the dugout with the game scoreless.

Tyler Wade led off the third inning with a double and moved to third base on a ground ball, but Gardner struck out for the second time and Judge flied to right for the second time. A loud out to the warning track, but an out nonetheless.

Gardner fanned on a changeup in the first and was caught looking at a 95 mph fastball in the third.

Didi Gregorius walked with one out in the fourth, but he was thrown out trying to steal. Chance Sisco nabbed his first one in the majors.

The first four Yankees produced the same results in their first two plate appearances. Gardner struck out twice, Judge flied to right, Stanton grounded to short and Gregorius walked. Sanchez ruined it by flying to left and right field.

Judge almost ruined Cashner's outing with the home run, his 12th against the Orioles in 80 at-bats. He began the night with a .364/.524/.870 slash line against them.

Judge became the fastest player in history to reach 58 home runs, doing it in his 189th game.

He's just a footnote tonight in a game that the Orioles claimed as their own in the seventh.
