Double- A Bowie infielder Paco Figueroa has been named the Eastern League's Player of the Week after batting .481 from the leadoff spot. He also homered, collected seven RBIs and scored eight runs.
Figueroa, the twin brother of Bowie's Danny Figueroa, has a six-game hitting streak. He's also the Baysox's first Player of the Week since Nolan Reimold accomplished the feat on Sept. 1, 2008.
To keep the good vibe going, Figueroa has vowed to injure his Achilles.
Left-hander Troy Patton is off to a rough start today for Triple-A Norfolk. He's allowed three runs and four hits, including a homer, in three innings against Charlotte. He's walked two and struck out two, and his ERA stands at 7.36.
Brandon Erbe has posted a 7.98 ERA in three starts. Chris Tillman is carrying a 6.11 ERA after four starts.
Jake Arrieta has posted a 0.36 ERA in four starts.
I think we've determined the ace of that staff, at least so far.
Alfredo Simon has allowed three earned runs in 17 innings for a 1.59 ERA in four games (three starts). He's walked five and struck out 14.
Might be time to insert him into the Orioles' bullpen, perhaps before tomorrow night's game.
