Post-game Notes: Sox top O's, 11-5

Late offense - Hard to remember that Saturday's game was actually tied 3-3 after six innings. The Red Sox scored the next eight runs to open an 11-3 lead before the Birds got some back in the last of the 9th. Boston tonight through six frames: three runs, seven hits. Boston offense, innings 7 - 9: eight runs on ten hits. When the Red Sox rallied for three runs in the 7th and five in the 8th, Jon Lester moved into position to beat the Orioles once again. The lefty pitched six innings plus, allowing ten hits and three runs. He gave up two homers and threw 101 pitches. He beat them again - Lester improved to 4-0, 1.65 (5ER in 27 1/3IP) this year in four starts vs. Baltimore. In 12 career starts vs. the O's, he is 10-0, 2.39. In six career starts at Camden Yards, he is 4-0, 2.13. Over their last 12 games, Sox starters are 7-1, 2.06. Boston has now won nine of its last ten games, 15 of 20 and 22 of the last 30 contests. Boston is 26-11 since August 10th. Doctor longball - Ty Wigginton and Felix Pie hit back-to-back homers leading off the last of the 9th off Manny Delcarmen. It's the third time this year the O's have gone back-to-back. Wigginton hit two solo homers in the game, one in the 2nd also and has ten home runs on the year. It's his second multi-homer game of this season, he also did it June 14th vs. Atlanta. It's his ninth career multi-homer contest. Matt Wieters, batting third for the first time in his career, went 3 for 5 with three singles and an RBI. Wieters has 10 RBI over his last six games. Felix Pie, who had just five hits in 36 at bats over his last ten games, went 3 for 4 with a solo homer. It was his 9th homer of the year and 6th in the last 20 games. With tonight's win, Boston has now won 11 consecutive series vs. the Orioles and has taken all six series between the clubs this year. Tough year - The Red Sox lead the season series, 15-2. Boston has won seven in a row vs. the O's and 22 of the last 25 vs. Baltimore. The Sox are 7-1 at Camden Yards this year. The O's fall to 2-4 on the homestand that ends Sunday. They are 36-41 at home on the year. The Orioles are now 20-41 vs. the AL East, 12-16 over the last 28 games and 6-10 in September.
