Quintanilla keeps muscling up (O's win 7-1)

The Orioles traded for Omar Quintanilla this summer because they regarded him as a defensive upgrade in the middle infield. As a guy who could add speed to the lineup. As a guy who might improve the team's on-base percentage. He wasn't supposed to hit home runs. Quintanilla belted his third homer with the Orioles tonight, a solo shot leading off the bottom of the third inning that broke a scoreless tie. The ball appeared to land on Eutaw St., though we never got an announcement from the club. That's got to be as far as Quintanilla can hit a ball. Quintanilla has three home runs in 68 at-bats with the Orioles. He totaled three in 592 major league at-bats before the trade. The Red Sox tied the game in the top of the fourth on David Ross' ground-rule double and Carl Crawford's one-out single into center field. Wei-Yin Chen has thrown 64 pitches, 49 for strikes, in four innings. He's allowed five hits, walked one and struck out three. Dylan Bundy made his first start tonight at Double-A Bowie. His final line: 5 1/3 innings, five hits, three runs, two earned runs, three walks, three strikeouts. Bundy threw 96 pitches, 56 for strikes. Update: Mark Reynolds gave the Orioles a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning with his 10th home run of the season, and his eighth against right-handed pitching. Josh Beckett's been pretty bad this year, but he counts as a right-handed pitcher. Reynolds has two homers and three RBIs in his last four games. Update II: Reynolds greeted reliever Mark Melancon with a three-run homer in the sixth to extend the Orioles' lead to 7-1. Reynolds has his 15th career multi-homer game and his first since Sept. 21, 2011 against Beckett, who was booed by Red Sox fans as he walked off the mound. Matt Wieters' infield hit scored one run off Beckett in the sixth, and Chris Davis followed with an RBI single. Melancon entered the game and Reynolds gave him a rude welcome. Reynolds' last four-RBI game was July 16 in Minnesota. He's in tonight's lineup against a right-hander because Wilson Betemit is dealing with a health issue. I didn't get any details and I'm not sure if he's available tonight. Chen leaves after Jacoby Ellsbury's leadoff single in the seventh. He gave up nine hits, walked one and struck out four. He threw 98 pitches, 74 for strikes. Darren O'Day has replaced him. Tonight's attendance: 26,204 Update III: O'Day, J.C. The Orioles are 48-0 when leading after the seventh, 50-1 when leading after the eighth, 41-15 when scoring first, 47-14 when scoring four runs or more, 56-29 when hitting a home run, and 15-44 when being out-hit.
