Rendon with two doubles as Salt River wins slugfest, 14-12

Nationals prospect Anthony Rendon went 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs as Salt River outscored Scottsdale 14-12 in the Arizona Fall League on Tuesday night. Rendon also had a single, two runs, sac fly and a stolen base, raising his average to .317. He has hit .382 (13-for-34) with five doubles, a triple and seven RBIs in his last 10 games. The third baseman has four stolen bases and 12 runs scored in 17 AFL contests. He has totaled 10 RBIs and 11 walks in Arizona. Rendon had the sac fly in second, RBI double in the fourth, walk in fifth, RBI single in the seventh and RBI double in the eighth. Brian Goodwin went 0-for-3 with a walk and a hit by pitch as the leadoff designated hitter. His average is now at .254. Ryan Perry went 3 2/3 innings, giving up four runs on five hits with two homers allowed. Cole Kimball gave up three runs, two earned, in two innings, on four hits with one punchout. Matt Skole and Jason Martinson (taxi squad) did not play. The lower half of the Rafters' order combined for an amazing 18 hits and 12 RBIs to power the team to victory, highlighted by Rendon, who demonstrated again his offensive skills and ability to make solid contact and extend at-bats. The Rafters are now 12-10, ending a three-game skid and jumping ahead of the Scorpions for first place in the East division by a half-game. Salt River is at Surprise tonight at 9:35 p.m.
