Reynolds delivers in clutch (O's trail 4-2)

CHICAGO - The Orioles loaded the bases without scoring in the third inning, making them 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position tonight, 0-for-13 in their last three games and 12-for-69 for the season. Adam Jones and Matt Wieters singled to open the fourth, but Nick Johnson struck out. Another missed opportunity. However, Mark Reynolds followed with a double to right-center field that scored Jones and tied the game, 1-1. Chris Davis struck out, Robert Andino walked to load the bases and Endy Chavez struck out. Reynolds is the only Oriole to deliver with RISP tonight. Reynolds has three RBIs this season on two swings. Reynolds served as the designated hitter for the first two games of the Toronto series, and he was held out of the lineup yesterday. Manager Buck Showalter told reporters that Reynolds had a sore throat. Jake Arrieta has allowed one run and two hits, with no walks and four strikeouts, in three innings. He's thrown 42 pitches, 30 for strikes. Update: Arrieta threw 65 pitches through five innings. Philip Humber threw 109 through the fifth. Humber left the game after throwing 115 pitches in 5 1/3 innings. How is this game tied, 1-1? The Orioles are 1-for-8 with RISP. They stranded a runner on third base in three straight innings. That'll do it. Down on the farm, Brandon Waring homered in his third straight game for Double-A Bowie in a 6-3 loss to Akron. The Baysox allowed two more unearned runs and have now given up a league-high 14 unearned runs. Update II: Arrieta gave up two runs, one earned, in the bottom of the sixth, and the White Sox have taken a 3-1 lead. First baseman Chris Davis dropped Arrieta's throw on a sacrifice bunt after Alejandro De Aza led off with a single. Paul Konerko delivered a two-run double after Adam Dunn struck out and was booed on his way back to the dugout. Davis also mishandled a throw in Saturday's game in Toronto. Arrieta threw 30 pitches in the sixth. Matt Lindstrom was warming up. Pinch-hitter Nolan Reimold struck out to begin the seventh, making him the fifth straight Oriole to fan, and the 10th tonight. Update III: Arrieta is charged with four runs (two earned) and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings, with one walk (intentional) and seven strikeouts. He threw 114 pitches - tying his career high - including 71 for strikes. The Orioles are down, 4-1, as we move to the top of the eighth. They've struck out 11 times tonight. Now they're down, 4-2, after Matt Wieters hit his third home run of the season. He's also committed two errors tonight, giving him three for the year. He had five errors in 2011.
