Roberts singles, Tillman continues (O's complete sweep with 4-2 win)

Brian Roberts lined a 1-2 pitch into center field for a single with one out in the fifth inning. Must have felt like a walk-off home run. Roberts had collected his first hit since April 4 at Tropicana Field, and his first hit in Baltimore since June 29, 2012. He took a deep breath and exhaled as he stood on the bag. He traveled a long way for that hit, and I don't mean Sarasota. Roberts is 6-for-14 this season. He's a nice presence at the bottom of the lineup. By the way, his wife, Diana, is due with their first child exactly five weeks from today. But we'll calculate the paternity leave at a later date. Roberts takes everything one day at a time. Chris Tillman threw 43 pitches in two innings and walked in the tying run, but he's made it through the fifth at 81 pitches (48 for strikes). He's retired seven in a row. Tillman has allowed one run and four hits, with two walks and five strikeouts. He's riding a career-high six game winning streak since May 24. Tillman is seeking his 11th quality start out of 17. He's 2-3 with an 8.16 ERA in seven career starts against the Yankees, but their current lineup isn't quite as imposing. It's worth noting that the Orioles are 4-3 in those starts. Tillman is trying to run his record to 18-5 since June 25, 2012. Instant update: Robinson Cano led off the top of the sixth inning with his 17th home run to reduce the Orioles' lead to 3-2. Cano is 10-for-19 with two homers and seven RBIs vs. Tillman. Tonight's attendance: 40,878 Update II: Now it's up to the bullpen. Tillman registered his 11th quality start out of 17, allowing two runs and five hits in six innings. He walked two, struck out six and surrendered a home run. Tillman left the game after 98 pitches, 58 for strikes. Darren O'Day has replaced him. Update III: O'Day hadn't issued a walk in 17 straight appearances since May 18, but he handed out two free passes in the seventh inning. However, he retired Brett Gardner on a fly ball to shallow center field and ran down Ichiro Suzuki's pop up in foul territory to escape the jam. Yes, pitchers are athletes, too. O'Day appeared to strike out Jayson Nix leading off the inning, but he was getting squeezed. Troy Patton was warming in the bullpen as the Yankees threatened. Update IV: The Orioles put runners on second and third with no outs against Kuroda, and Brian Roberts lifted a sacrifice fly to medium center field off reliever Boone Logan with one out to increase the lead to 4-0. Roberts has two RBIs in four games. Update V: The Orioles have their first series sweep of more than two games this season with tonight's 4-2 victory over the Yankees. Jim Johnson recorded his 28th save this season and the 100th of his career. And the Orioles won their fourth straight game to improve their record to 47-36. Troy Patton retired the first batter he faced in the eighth, and Tommy Hunter got the next two outs on four pitches. Lyle Overbay was on deck when the inning ended. He's 6-for-10 with a double and two home runs lifetime against Hunter. Johnson gave up a leadoff double to Overbay, who's 4-for-10 against the Orioles' closer, and he hit Chris Stewart with one out. David Adams struck out and Gardner bounced into a force at second, with Alexi Casilla making a nice pickup behind the bag and flip to Hardy. Machado had three more hits tonight, raising his season total to 115.
