Tillman, gloves and Valencia (O's win 4-2, complete three-game sweep)

Orioles right-hander Chris Tillman understands how the West was won. Tillman began tonight with a career 10-1 record and 2.03 ERA in 12 starts against the American League West, and he's leading 4-1 as the game moves to the bottom of the seventh inning. Tillman is trying to produce the Orioles' seventh quality start in the last eight games. He hasn't dominated tonight, but he's held the Rangers to one run so far. In three career starts in Arlington, including tonight, Tillman has allowed only four earned runs in 20 innings. Orioles pitching has limited the Rangers to three hits in 22 at-bats with runners in scoring position and has left 24 runners on base in the series. Manny Machado was 0-for-2 wearing batting gloves. He's 1-for-1 with an RBI and a walk since he removed them. Glove Me Tender, Glove Me Sweet. Danny Valencia is 0-for-3 with two strikeouts tonight and has stranded three runners. He's in an 0-for-20 slump in his last nine games with the Orioles, his last hits coming on June 16. The Orioles recalled Valencia on Friday while placing Nolan Reimold on the disabled list. He's made two starts in this series against left-handers. The Orioles will see three right-handers in their four-game series against the Royals that begins Monday night in Kansas City, and Henry Urrutia will most likely serve as the designated hitter. Update: The Orioles are closer to their seventh quality start in their last eight games. Tillman has held the Rangers to one run and five hits in eight innings, with three walks and seven strikeouts. He's up to 113 pitches, 72 for strikes. Tillman also went eight innings on May 2 in Anaheim. Does he come back out for the ninth? Henry Urrutia pinch-hit for Valencia in the top of the eighth and grounded into a force, with Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland making a diving stop. Machado, gloveless again in the top of the ninth, followed Nate McLouth's infield hit with a fly ball to left field. Can anybody find me somebody to glove? Update II: The Orioles completed the sweep and moved a season-high 13 games above .500 with a 4-2 win over the Rangers. Adrian Beltre homered off Tillman (12-3) leading off the bottom of the ninth on the right-hander's 117th pitch, a season high. Tillman still registered the Orioles' seventh quality start in eight games. Brian Matusz struck out A.J. Pierzynski on a 94 mph fastball, but he walked pinch-hitter Jurickson Profar on four pitches. Darren O'Day retired the next two batters, striking out David Murphy, to earn his fourth career save and his second this season.
