Tyler Wilson has been scratched from tonight's start with Triple-A Norfolk and he's no longer with the team.
Wilson is in Baltimore as insurance in case the Orioles need him on Sunday. He's not necessarily the starter for the series finale against the Angels. He could be sent back.
There are multiple factors at work here, including rain that's caused the start of tonight's game to be delayed.
Bud Norris and Chris Tillman are unavailable to start on Sunday. Manager Buck Showalter is considering Mike Wright and left-hander T.J. McFarland - the rookie figures to be the preference - but it depends whether they're needed tonight in relief.
The Tides are in Indianapolis and the Orioles want to keep Wilson close in case there's a shortage of available arms. Showalter included "someone from Triple-A" among the possibilities to start on Sunday.
Wilson, 25, impressed the Orioles in spring training and is regarded as one of their better pitching prospects. He retired 12 of 13 Yankees in a March 28 Grapefruit League start in Tampa.
Wilson is 2-4 with a 3.43 ERA in seven starts with Norfolk this season after being named the organization's minor league Pitcher of the Year in 2014, when he went 14-8 with a 3.67 ERA in 28 starts between Norfolk and Double-A Bowie.
The Orioles selected Wilson in the 10th round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Virginia.
Michael Bowden will start for Norfolk tonight.
Update: Steve Pearce was 3-for-23 this month before tonight's game, but he's singled and homered in his first two at-bats.
Pearce broke a scoreless tie with two outs in the fourth with a solo shot off Matt Shoemaker, his third homer of the year and first since April 7 at Tropicana Field.
Ubaldo Jimenez has retired 12 of 13 batters and thrown 37 of 45 pitches for strikes. He set down the first nine before Kole Calhoun's leadoff single in the fourth.
Update II: The Angels took a 2-1 lead in the seventh with the help of two infield hits and a high chopper off Manny Machado's glove.
No. 9 hitter Marc Krauss had a legitimate single with two outs that broke a 1-1 tie. Otherwise, Jimenez was the victim of lousy luck.
Jimenez has thrown 92 pitches, 63 for strikes, over seven innings.
Darren O'Day will work the eighth. Jimenez allowed two runs and seven hits, walked none and struck out six. His ERA actually rose from 2.41 to 2.43.
Update III: Mike Trout led off the eighth with a home run, the first earned run off O'Day in his last 12 appearances. Angels 3, Orioles 1.
Update IV: Britton served up a leadoff home run to David Freese in the ninth and gave up another run on a wild pitch. Angels 5, Orioles 1.
Trout reached on an infield hit, the ball rolling under Machado's glove, to bring home another run. Angels 6, Orioles 1.
Update V: The Orioles have dropped a season-high four games below .500 following tonight's 6-1 loss to the Angels.
The Orioles are 15-19 this season.
Machado's streak of reaching base in consecutive games ended at 20.
