Updating Dylan Bundy's latest start (O's lose 5-4)

SARASOTA, Fla. - Dylan Bundy today became the first Orioles starter to clear five innings. He got his pitch count up to 96. His arm continues to feel good.

Bundy was charged with four earned runs and five total in 5 2/3 innings, with five hits, one walk, six strikeouts, one home run, one wild pitch and two hit batters. He threw 58 strikes among his 96 pitches, going heavy with his secondary stuff and having mixed results with his fastball.

The Orioles scored one run in seven innings off Mets starter Noah Syndergaard. Cedric Mullins led off the third with another bunt single, stole second base and raced home on Chris Davis' single into right field.

Davis also grounded out and struck out in his first game since March 2.

Bundy has surrendered 16 runs (15 earned) and 23 hits in 15 innings in his four Grapefruit League starts. He should get one more opportunity before perhaps taking the mound on opening day at Camden Yards.

Travis d'Arnaud led off the top of the second inning by getting ahead 3-0 in the count and launching a fastball over the center field fence. Bundy retired seven of the first eight batters before Matt den Dekker tripled to right field in the third inning and scored on Brandon Nimmo's single.

Bundy hit José Reyes and d'Arnaud drove in two more runs with a double to left-center field.

A 1-2-3 fourth inning was followed by Bundy nailing Nimmo - also a bad movie sequel - in the fifth and walking Jose Flores. The Orioles also botched a rundown, but the Mets didn't score.

The lead grew to 5-1 in the sixth after Jose Lobaton's leadoff single off Bundy and Amed Rosario's two-out single off left-hander Luis Gonzalez. The run was unearned after Caleb Joseph was charged with a passed ball.

Bundy struck out the last batter he faced, freezing Juan Lagares with his 96th pitch of the afternoon.

Mychal Givens stranded a runner in the seventh by striking out d'Arnaud.

The Orioles have eight hits through seven innings. Colby Rasmus singled in the second, Adam Jones singled in the fourth, Tim Beckham singled in the fifth and was caught stealing, Jonathan Schoop and Manny Machado had back-to-back singles in the sixth, and Mullins singled and stole second base in the seventh.

The game drew an announced crowd of 7,660 at Ed Smith Stadium for the fourth sellout of the spring.

Update: Engelb Vielma looped an RBI single into left field off Seth Lugo in the eighth inning after Craig Gentry singled, stole second base and took third on E-2. Danny Valencia followed with a two-run homer and the Orioles have cut the Mets lead to 5-4.
