BOSTON - As Manny Machado prepares to make another start at shortstop in J.J. Hardy's absence, he also continues to lead all American League third basemen in All-Star voting.
Machado would be the only Orioles starter if voting ended today, but it runs through June 30. The 87th Midsummer Classic will be played July 12 in San Diego.
Mark Trumbo remains in fourth place among AL outfielders, but it's a tight race. Catcher Matt Wieters is second and first baseman Chris Davis is third at their respective positions.
Machado has received 1,234,388 votes to lead the Royals' Mike Moustakas (824,727), who's injured and done for the season. He continues to play while waiting for Major League Baseball to hear the appeal on his four-game suspension.
Trumbo has received 1,110,720 votes to put him behind the Angels' Mike Trout (1,812,731), the Red Sox's Jackie Bradley Jr. (1,322,929) and the Royals' Lorenzo Cain (1,146,885).
Trumbo leads the majors with 20 home runs and ranks fifth with 49 RBIs. His .584 slugging percentage is sixth.
Wieters have received 672,822 votes to put him a distance second. Royals catcher Salvador Perez continues to lead all American League players with 2,063,459 votes.
The Royals' Eric Hosmer leads first basemen with 1,614,016 votes, followed by the Tigers' Miguel Cabrera with 1,092,077 and Davis with 571,583.
The Orioles are excluded from the top five at second base, shortstop and designated hitter. The Astros' Jose Altuve leads second basemen with 1,230,619 votes, the Red Sox's Xander Bogaerts leads shortstops with 1,541,180 and the Red Sox's David Ortiz leads designated hitters with 2,015,043.
The voting will be updated again in exactly one week.
