Will the weather let Wilson pitch?

MINNEAPOLIS - Tyler Wilson's start in this series was delayed, but not denied. Unless the weather rears its ugly head again, which is a distinct possibility.

Manager Buck Showalter pushed back Wilson following Monday night's postponement. The rookie will make his fourth start of the season and second appearances against the Twins after shutting them out on two hits over three innings on opening day.

Wilson was needed because rain ended Chris Tillman's outing after only two innings.

Can he use anything from that appearance to perhaps give him an edge today?

"Definitely," he said. "We have a plan going in on how we want to attack the guys and having some experience of facing them a month and a half ago is two-fold, because they've seen me as well," he said.

"We're just going to stick to the game plan and do exactly what we want to do and hopefully win a ballgame."

Wilson is 1-1 with a 4.02 ERA in 15 2/3 innings as a starter this season, and he's posted a 1.13 ERA in eight relief innings. Right-handers are batting .231 against him and left-handers are hitting .216. And if any of this reads familiar, it's because I wrote it on Monday.

Phil Hughes turned in four straight quality starts to open the season, including his April 7 outing against the Orioles at Camden Yards. But in his last two starts, he's allowed 10 runs and 13 hits over seven innings to raise his ERA to 5.85.

Hughes lasted only two innings on May 4 against the Astros, surrendering six runs and six hits. His five losses were tied for the major league lead heading into last night's games.

Left-handers are batting .341 against Hughes this season. They're hitting .262 over his career.

Hughes is 8-6 with a 4.56 ERA and 1.375 WHIP against the Orioles in 24 games (21 starts) over 116 1/3 innings. Manny Machado is 10-for-21 with two home runs. Nolan Reimold is 3-for-8 with a double and home run.

Adam Jones is 9-for-54 with two doubles and three home runs. Jonathan Schoop is 1-for-10.

The Orioles improved to 6-7 on the road with last night's win.

Machado hit his 10th home run in 30 games, the earliest point in his career. The previous mark was his 59th game in 2015.

Machado has hit safely in 17 of 20 career games against the Twins. He's a lifetime .452 hitter (19-for-42) at Target Field, with two doubles, three home runs, five RBIs and 10 runs scored.

Before last night, Jones' last three-RBI game occurred on Sept. 13, 2015 versus the Royals.

Mark Trumbo has reached base safely in 23 straight games. He's 6-for-16 (.375) against the Twins this season and is a lifetime .310 hitter against them, with 36 hits in 116 at-bats.
