Nolan Reimold grounded into a double play today to end the bottom of the sixth inning, and he didn't take the field for the top of the seventh.
The Orioles announced that Reimold was removed from the game with right hamstring tightness. He will be re-evaluated on Monday.
Reimold was bothered by a sore right shoulder in spring training, but didn't have any hamstring issues. He's 1-for-3 with a run scored today and 4-for-17 this season.
Nate McLouth replaced Reimold in left...
Jason Hammel threw 10 of his 13 pitches for strikes in the first inning today, allowing a single and striking out two. He retired the side in order in the second, picking up another strikeout.
Hammel has thrown 27 pitches, 20 for strikes.
J.J. Hardy hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the second to give the Orioles a 2-0 lead. Hardy's ball traveled an estimated 374 feet.
The Orioles have hit seven homers this season. None of them are solo shots.
Nick Markakis added an RBI single with two...
It's been a quiet Sunday morning at Camden Yards. Not much to report.
Second baseman Brian Roberts still plans on flying to Sarasota later today to rehab his right knee. He intends to meet up with the Orioles sooner than first anticipated.
Wilson Betemit is here today, on crutches, to be examined by a team physician. His right knee is feeling much better since we last spoke with him.
Betemit will return to Sarasota on Wednesday. He should know the timetable for his return once he's...
Orioles manager Buck Showalter is using Steve Pearce as his designated hitter, starting Taylor Teagarden behind the plate and putting Alexi Casilla at second base for today's game against the Minnesota Twins at Camden Yards.
Nick Markakis is leading off, with Nolan Reimold in left field and Nate McLouth on the bench against Twins left-hander Pedro Hernandez.

The Orioles have gone through their rotation once, and it's back to Jason Hammel for today's series finale against the Minnesota Twins.
The club's starters have posted a 5.74 ERA, which includes the three runs Hammel allowed to the Tampa Bay Rays over six innings on opening day.
Hammel berated himself afterward, but the Orioles would gladly take another quality start after the back-to-back struggles of Jake Arrieta and Chris Tillman.
Hammel is 2-0 with a 2.14 ERA in four career games...
The wait ended for T.J. McFarland with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Manager Buck Showalter walked to the mound and signaled for the Rule 5 pick. It was time to make his major league debut in the fifth game of the 2013 season.
McFarland is taking full advantage of the opportunity while also demonstrating why the Orioles wanted so badly to make room for him on their roster.
McFarland has retired 10 of the first 11 batters he's faced, striking out five of them. Chris Parmelee is...
The Orioles and Blue Jays were the only American League teams without an infield hit before tonight.
Now the Jays stand alone.
Adam Jones took a full swing in the bottom of the first inning and sent a slow roller up the third base line with runners on second and third and only one out. Manny Machado raced home, and Nick Marakis followed him when Twins starter Vance Worley fielded the ball and fired it past first baseman Justin Morneau.
Credit Jones with an RBI, his fifth this season, and...
Orioles left-hander T.J. McFarland began to warm up yesterday as starter Jake Arrieta tried to fight out of a jam in the home opener against the Minnesota Twins. He eventually sat down, another day passing without the Rule 5 pick getting into a game.
McFarland is being patient, of course. No complaints will be forthcoming. He's in the majors for the first time and more than happy to wait his turn.
Not that the competitive juices have stopped flowing. He's eager to make his debut.
"I'm...
Chris Davis is keeping the Orioles' PR staff extra-busy with his historic start to the 2013 season.
Here are some facts that have been gathered and made available before tonight's game against the Minnesota Twins:
* Davis has more RBIs (16) than 17 major league teams.
* Has twice as many RBIs as the Marlins (8), Padres (8), Giants (8), Cubs (7), Dodgers (7) and Pirates (6). He has more RBIs than any two players in the major leagues combined.
* Easily has the highest RBI total through four...
The Orioles officially removed infielder Yamaico Navarro from the 25-man roster today by optioning him to Triple-A Norfolk. The move allowed the Orioles to activate pitcher Chris Tillman from the 15-day disabled list and hand him the ball tonight.
Navarro was hoping to catch a flight back to Norfolk and play in the second game of the Tides' doubleheader.
The Orioles will go with a three-man bench, preferring to keep the extra bullpen arm as they prepare for next week's road trip to Boston...
Chris Tillman will start for the Orioles tonight in their 7:05 p.m. game against the Twins at Camden Yards. Still no word on the corresponding roster move that will restore Tillman to the 25-man roster. While we wait for that move, here's the Orioles lineup:
Nate McLouth LF
Manny Machado 3B
Nick Markakis RF
Adam Jones CF
Chris Davis 1B
Matt Wieters C
J.J. Hardy SS
Ryan Flaherty 2B
Nolan Reimold DH
Chris Tillman RHP
Update: Yamaico Navarro just walked into manager Buck Showalter's office...
Orioles minor league pitcher Daniel McCutchen, who gained attention this spring for an adjustment to his delivery, has been suspended 50 games without pay for his violation of the Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
According to a press release from Major League Baseball, McCutchen tested positive for performance-enhancing substances Methenolone and a metabolite of Trenbolone. His suspension is effective immediately.
McCutchen, who is currently on the roster of Triple-A Norfolk, allowed...
Steve Johnson threw 35 pitches yesterday in a bullpen session in Sarasota without any discomfort related to his strained right latissimus dorsi muscle.
Johnson, on the 15-day disabled list, will pitch live batting practice on Monday. Assuming the session goes well, he could begin an injury-rehab assignment with one of the Orioles' minor league affiliates.
The Orioles are hoping that he will be ready to pitch in real games within the next week to 10 days.
Johnson is on the major league...
With 16 RBIs in four games, Chris Davis seemed like the appropriate person to also drive me in today, Alas, he wasn't willing to carpool.
While replaying the eighth inning in my head, I kept coming back to the perfect sacrifice bunt from Manny Machado that led to the intentional walk to Nick Markakis, which led to Adam Jones' RBI single, which led to Davis' grand slam, which led to a four-run lead.
Nolan Reimold and Nate McLouth singled with no outs and the Orioles down 5-4. Machado...
Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts will fly home to Sarasota on Sunday to begin his recovery and rehab after an MRI this morning revealed a ruptured tendon behind his right knee.
Manager Buck Showalter regarded the findings as "actually good news."
"Considering that's the same tendon area they take out of your leg for Tommy John, which tells you some doctors think it's not a part of your body you necessarily have to have in that area," Showalter said. "We're hopeful in a three- to...
As Adam Jones watched Minnesota reliever Casey Fien issue an intentional walk to Nick Markakis in the bottom of the eighth inning today, he turned toward the visiting dugout and smiled at Twins manager Ron Gardenhire. Gardenhire smiled back at him.
"I love the dude, I love his competitiveness," Jones said. "He's a great manager. And he always smiles at me."
Jones got the last laugh, grounding a bases-loaded single into left field to tie the score at 5-5. Tyler Robertson replaced Fien,...
This has gotten ridiculous. And historic.
With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, Chris Davis swung at the first pitch from Twins reliever Tyler Robertson and hit a grand slam to give the Orioles a 9-5 lead.
Davis reached out and lifted the ball over the fence in left field, and Camden Yards erupted. He came out for a curtain call after Robertson's first pitch to Matt Wieters.
Davis is the fourth player in major league history to homer in the first four games...
Did anyone notice the new warning track at Camden Yards?
Orioles manager Buck Showalter is pleased that the Orioles replaced their synthetic track with a natural surface.
"I know it's a lot safer," he said. "I really applaud our ownership for it, because somebody had to pay for it, and it was huge.
"I know our outfielders are very excited about it. They came out with this zone rating for defense and they kept coming back about Orioles outfielders, and a couple spots they were short in...
The Orioles acknowledged the Ravens' Super Bowl victory with a video tribute during today's pregame ceremony.
"I'm a big fan of them and the way they do things," manager Buck Showalter said during his session with the media. "I know Ozzie Newsome, being an Alabama guy. I got to spend some time with him. I liked to see how they did things, and I spent some time with coach Harbaugh and Ozzie, toured their facility.
"The more you're around things like that, you see things don't happen...
In an earlier blog entry, I noted how 14 of the Orioles' 20 runs this season have scored with two outs.
Apparently, it's not just a dome thing.
Nate McLouth singled with two outs in the bottom of the third inning, stole second base and raced home on Manny Machado's single up the middle.
Nick Markakis had the Orioles' only hit, a single in the first inning, before McLouth ignited the rally.
Jake Arrieta came within an out of escaping another jam in the fourth, but the odds caught up to...
