Hammel can't solve Encarnacion (O's lead 3-2)

The Orioles may want to walk Edwin Encarnacion. Or trade for him. Encarnacion hit his seventh home run in 12 games against the Orioles this season, and his 14th over the past two years. That's the most by any player against a single team in that span, according to ESPN Stats and Info. The Blue Jays almost hit for the cycle against Jason Hammel in the first inning. Jose Reyes doubled, Encarnacion homered and Adam Lind singled. Hammel was only four batters into his start. Encarnacion's two-run blast measured 442 feet as it landed next to the visiting bullpen at sold-out Camden Yards. Encarnacion is 7-for-15 with three homers lifetime against Hammel, who threw 17 pitches in the first inning and got a key double play grounder from Colby Rasmus to escape further harm. Hammel has served up 19 home runs in 106 2/3 innings this season. Maicer Izturis led off the second inning with a single and J.P. Arencibia grounded into a double play, again bailing out Hammel. Update: Chris Davis homered in the bottom of the second inning, because that's what he does. Davis' 36th homer reduced Toronto's lead to 2-1 and put him one behind Reggie Jackson (1969) for the most by the break in American League history. He's homered in three straight games. Davis went to the opposite field again. I wonder how many times he'll do it in Monday's Home Run Derby at Citi Field. Davis has 14 homers against the Jays since the start of the 2012 season, the most of any player. Adam Jones is second with 12. Today's homer came on the ninth pitch of the at-bat, an 82 mph slider from Todd Redmond. Update II: Jones hit his second homer in two games to tie the score 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth, and Davis scored from first base on Brian Roberts' double off the out-of-town scoreboard in right to give the Orioles a 3-2 lead. Jones jumped on the first pitch from Redmond, an 89 mph fastball, for his 18th homer this season and his 13th vs. the Jays in two years. Redmond hit Davis on the left foot, and Roberts came through with two outs. By the way, eight of Davis' last 10 hits have been home runs.
