Kyle Bradish is making his 14^th start. He’s registered a 3.88 ERA and 1.262 WHIP in 65 innings.

Bradish faced the Mariners on June 1, 2022 at Camden Yards and allowed two runs and six hits with six strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings. J.P. Crawford hit a solo home run.

The Orioles reinstated center fielder Cedric Mullins from the injured list this afternoon. They also recalled left-hander Bruce Zimmermann and optioned reliever Logan Gillaspie and infielder Josh Lester to Triple-A Norfolk.

Mullins finished his rehab assignment with Norfolk after Thursday’s doubleheader and returned to Baltimore. He’s leading off today.

First baseman Ryan Mountcastle stayed with the Tides last night. He isn’t included to today’s transactions.

Lester tossed a scoreless ninth inning last night in his professional pitching debut and reached on an error in the bottom half.

Ryan O’Hearn is playing first base again and batting cleanup. Gunnar Henderson is the shortstop. Aaron Hicks moves to right fielid.

Gunnar Henderson is leading off and serving as designated hitter for tonight’s series opener against the Mariners at rainy Camden Yards.

Henderson is batting .358 in June after bringing a .201 average into the month, the third-largest increase in the majors with a minimum 50 at-bats, according to STATS.

The Orioles didn’t reinstate center fielder Cedric Mullins or first baseman Ryan Mountcastle from the injured list.

Mullins started both games of last night’s doubleheader for Triple-A Norfolk, giving him 11 plate appearances on his injury rehab assignment. He’s batting .263/.356/.479 with 12 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, 39 RBIs and 13 stolen bases in 53 games with the Orioles but hasn’t played since May 29 due to a strained groin.

Mullins’ eventual return also will give the Orioles a player who ranks sixth in the majors with a .432 average with runners in scoring position.

Gunnar Henderson is leading off again today at Wrigley Field and Ramón Urías is the designated hitter for the series opener against the Cubs.

The Orioles’ lineup also includes first baseman Ryan O’Hearn in the cleanup spot and Aaron Hicks in center field.

Adley Rutschman is behind the plate. He’s tied with Austin Hays for the team lead in hits with 70 and is first in walks with 46. Sean Murphy and Joe Mauer are the only American League catchers ever to lead their teams in both categories. Mauer did it twice.

Cole Irvin is making his second start since the Orioles put him back in the rotation. He faced the Royals Saturday and allowed one run in 5 1/3 innings.

Irvin’s only career start against the Cubs came on May 22, 2019 with the Phillies at Wrigley Field, when he allowed seven runs in 4 2/3 innings. It was Irvin’s third career game and his first loss.

Austin Voth is hoping to begin throwing again next week to test the right elbow that forced him on the injured list yesterday.

Voth is taking a stronger dose of an anti-inflammatory to reduce the swelling.

The Orioles placed Voth on the IL after he allowed two runs and three hits Tuesday in one-third of an inning. He also walked a batter, and Cavan Biggio’s homer was the first that Voth surrendered in his last 18 appearances.

Voth’s previous outing also was a struggle, with two walks in one-third of an inning against the Royals.

“It’s getting better,” he said this morning. “It’s just a matter of calming it down to the point where I can move it without moving something. And from there, I’m not throwing right now, so the next step would be probably throwing in maybe a week to see how it’s doing.”

Ramón Urías is making his second career start at first base this afternoon, as the Orioles concluded their homestand.

Manager Brandon Hyde is stacking his lineup with right-handed bats, including James McCann catching, Ryan McKenna in left field and Joey Ortiz at second base.

Austin Hays is leading off, with Gunnar Henderson in the cleanup spot.

Tyler Wells has posted a 3.24 ERA in 13 games (12 starts), and his 0.853 WHIP leads the majors. He’s allowed five runs in his last three starts over 18 innings.

Wells has made eight career appearances against the Blue Jays, including two starts, and allowed 10 runs and 18 hits in 14 2/3 innings.

The Orioles will recall left-hander Cole Irvin to start Saturday afternoon’s game against the Royals at Camden Yards.

A corresponding move will be made to accommodate him on the roster.

Irvin hasn’t started for the Orioles since allowing six runs in four innings against the Athletics on April 13. He made a relief appearance on May 20 after they recalled him, allowing a hit in one-third of an inning in Toronto.

The Saturday game will mark Irvin’s fourth start since the Orioles acquired him from the Athletics. He’s 0-2 with a 10.38 ERA and 2.000 WHIP in 13 innings and averaging 5.5 walks.

The time in Norfolk led to a 6-1 record, 3.21 ERA and 1.048 WHIP in seven starts, with only four walks in 42 innings.

MILWAUKEE – Orioles third baseman Gunnar Henderson said he expects to be in Wednesday night’s lineup against the Brewers.

Henderson was removed from Saturday’s game in San Francisco with lower-back soreness and he didn’t play Sunday. Ramón Urías is playing third base tonight.

“It’s actually feeling pretty good today,” Henderson said. “It was just getting really tight and didn’t feel great bending forward, but doing activities today, just doing half the reps to see how it feels, and hopefully be in there tomorrow.”

Henderson figured he would be day-to-day and nothing more serious.

“It just progressively got worse after that train ride back from New York and just kept getting tight on me,” he said. “And then it got pretty unbearable the last game, and I was probably going to hurt the team more than help it at that point.”

SAN FRANCISCO - With a 3-2 win in the series opener on Friday night, the Orioles can win their series against the San Francisco Giants with a victory tonight at Oracle Park.

The Orioles (36-21) will again bat Adan Frazier leadoff with Austin Hays hitting cleanup and playing left field. Ryan O'Hearn is in the lineup again too, but this time in right field batting eighth. Ryan Mountcastle, who is 7-for-38 his past 10 games, was off Friday but returns to the lineup tonight at first base and batting sixth.

The Orioles would be 13-5-1 with a series win this weekend.

Cedric Mullins has returned to the Orioles lineup tonight for the series opener against the Rangers at Camden Yards.

Ryan O’Hearn is the designated hitter. Adam Frazier continues to bat fifth.

The Orioles and Rangers have the two best records in baseball since April 13 at 27-11 and 24-13.

The Orioles are averaging 5.81 runs per game on the road and 4.35 runs at home, the largest differential in the major leagues per STATS.

A victory tonight would match the best 50-game stretch in the Rangers' franchise history. The 2013 team won 32 of its first 50 but missed the playoffs after losing to the Rays in Game 163.

TORONTO – The Orioles' latest road trip – an all American League East affair – begins tonight at Rogers Centre as the Toronto Blue Jays (25-19) host the Orioles (28-16) to start a three-game series.

The Orioles just split a four-game series with the Los Angles Angels while Toronto was losing three of four to the New York Yankees at home.

Tonight's lineup shows rookie Joey Ortiz making his first MLB start at third base. Ortiz has eight career starts on the farm at third base, two this year for Triple-A Norfolk, two last year and four in the 2021 season. 

Tampa Bay (32-13) is leading the division by 3 1/2 games over the Orioles, by 6 1/2 over Toronto and New York and by 7 1/2 over Boston.

The Orioles went 2-8 in Toronto in 2021 and 5-5 last year.

The Orioles begin a four-game home series against the Angels tonight with Anthony Santander starting at first base and Terrin Vavra playing right field.

Santander hasn’t played first in the majors. He made nine starts in A ball in 2016.

Also in the lineup against Shohei Ohtani are Ryan Mountcastle as the designated hitter and Adam Frazier at second base. Jorge Mateo is back at shortstop after resting yesterday.

The Orioles’ 26 wins are the most through 40 games since 2012. The club record is 28 in 1970, followed by 27 in 1997 and 1969.

All five Orioles with 20 or more RBIs are under 30 years old, tying them with the Rays for the most, according to STATS.

Fredi González is managing the Orioles tonight while Brandon Hyde is at Syracuse University for daughter Aria’s graduation, and their bench coach is hoping to guide the team to its ninth series win in 10 tries.

Joey Ortiz is in the clubhouse today. A new rule allows a non-catcher to join the taxi squad for 24 hours. Ortiz will return to Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday if he isn’t placed on the active roster.

Ryan O’Hearn is the designated hitter tonight. The infield includes Adam Frazier at second base, Gunnar Henderson at third and Jorge Mateo at shortstop.

Cedric Mullins hit for the cycle last night and is slashing .316/.414/.547 (30-for-95) with seven doubles, three triples, three home runs, 23 RBIs, 12 runs scored, 16 walks, and seven stolen bases in 27 games since April 12.

Adley Rutschman leads the American League with 31 walks.

The Orioles have a third left-hander in their bullpen again after recalling Nick Vespi from Triple-A Norfolk. He replaces Drew Rom, who was optioned after Wednesday’s game.

Vespi underwent sports hernia surgery in January and didn’t break camp with the team. He allowed four runs and struck out 17 batters in 12 2/3 innings with the Tides.

Vespi didn’t allow an earned run with Norfolk last season over 28 2/3 innings. He made 25 appearances with the Orioles and was 5-0 with a 4.10 ERA and 1.405 WHIP in 26 1/3 innings.

Kyle Stowers is in right field tonight and trying to heat up after a 2-for-24 start. He’s batting ninth.

Adam Frazier remains in the fifth spot in the order, followed by Austin Hays and Gunnar Henderson.

DETROIT – Heavy rain yesterday rearranged the four-game series between the Orioles and Tigers, with the teams forced into a split doubleheader today.

The first game begins at 12:10 p.m., with the second game at 5:10 p.m.

The Orioles have won nine of their last 10 games, 11 of 13 and 13 of 16. They improved Friday night to 9-0 in series openers.

A victory today in Game 1 would put them 10 above .500 to match their high in 2022.

Adley Rutschman is out of the Game 1 lineup for the first time this season. Joey Ortiz starts again at second base.

Jorge Mateo isn’t in tonight’s lineup, as the Orioles begin their homestand with three games against the Tigers. Mateo left Wednesday's game in Washington with hip discomfort. However, the team didn’t announce a roster move.

Gunnar Henderson is playing shortstop and Ramón Urías is at third base.

Terrin Vavra is in right field and Anthony Santander is the designated hitter.

Ryan Mountcastle has collected 20 of the Orioles’ 96 RBIs - 20.8 percent that ranks as the third highest in the majors, per STATS.

Grayson Rodriguez makes his Camden Yards debut tonight, sans the gas cans in the stands.

Rodriguez remains in the rotation while Kyle Bradish is on the injured list with a bruised right foot, and he could stay depending on his results and how the Orioles could create room for him. Bradish is expected to begin an injury rehab assignment this week.

The Orioles called up Rodriguez to make Wednesday’s start in Texas, and he retired 13 of the last 15 batters after a two-run first inning. He kept the Rangers scoreless over the last four innings.

BOSTON – Orioles manager Brandon Hyde posted his first lineup of the 2023 season with Ramón Urías and Adam Frazier in the infield and Gunnar Henderson serving as designated hitter.

Kyle Stowers is the odd man out, beginning the game on the bench while the Red Sox start right-hander Corey Kluber.

Urías is playing third base, Austin Hays is in right field and Anthony Santander is in left – in front of the Green Monster.

Asked in the dugout this morning about starting Urías at third, Hyde said, “Well, I’ve got Kyle Gibson on the mound and Urías won the Gold Glove at third base last year and Jorge Mateo should have won the Gold Glove at shortstop, so I feel pretty good about the left side of our infield. Obviously, I want Gunnar’s bat in the lineup.

“These guys are going to move around quite a bit. When we face (Chris) Sale, it’s going to be different, when we face (Tanner) Houck, it’s going to be different. So, it’s going to be pretty much starting-pitcher-against-us-dependent, with also who we have on the mound. But all these guys are going to play.”

BOSTON – The Orioles set their 26-man roster with the anticipated moves on the injured list and a late pivot in the bullpen.

Logan Gillaspie and Mike Baumann made the club, and Joey Krehbiel was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk.

Krehbiel broke camp with the team and spent most of the season on the active roster before slumping over the second half and being optioned in September. He had poor numbers this spring after two exhibition appearances but got on a roll with six straight scoreless and hitless outings, and he seemed like a safe bet to travel north.

Baumann was switched to a short-inning role and thrived with five consecutive scoreless appearances. Gillaspie pitched in seven games and allowed an unearned run with two walks and 10 strikeouts in seven innings.

The Orioles placed catcher James McCann on the 10-day injured list, pitchers Dillon Tate and Mychal Givens on the 15-day IL and John Means on the 60-day IL. Catcher Anthony Bemboom’s contract was selected, giving him two Opening Day roster berths in a row.
