Adam Dunn's homer in the last of the ninth gives Chicago walk-off win

That was a tough way to lose a game. Adam Dunn hit a homer to left field off Tommy Hunter on a 3-2 breaking ball in the last of the ninth as the White Sox won 3-2 over the Orioles. The O's had lefty Brian Matusz up in the bullpen, but Dunn hit his 23rd homer to give the White Sox the walk-off win. Trailing 2-0, the Orioles tied it up in the top of the eighth off reliever Nate Jones. Brian Roberts drew a leadoff walk and went to third on a Nate McLouth double. With one out, first baseman Dunn booted a Matt Wieters grounder to make it 2-1 and a Nick Markakis sac fly made it a 2-2 game. Markakis went 1-for-3 today and went 6-for-10 in the series and he is 9-for-19 (.474) over his last five games. For seven innings, the O's managed just two hits off starter Jose Quintana, who entered with a 2-3 record and 3.97 ERA. The 24-year-old lefty struck out a career-high 11 batters, four more than his previous season high. Quintana threw 112 pitches. The White Sox broke a scoreless tie with a two-run last of the sixth. Alexei Ramirez led off with a double and scored on a single to center by Alex Rios. Rios later scored on a Dunn RBI single. Zach Britton provided the Orioles with a strong start, going seven innings and giving up six hits and two runs. He threw 99 pitches. Britton gave up six runs in his first start of the season, but has pitched to an ERA of 2.74 over his last four starts. The Orioles were 8-3 this year in series finales after splitting the first two games until this loss. It was just the Orioles' second loss in the last seven games and they fall to 17-8-3 in series. The Orioles start this road trip losing a series to a White Sox team that had lost six of its last seven and 24 of 33 before today. Now it's on to New York for a three-game series with the Yankees. The Orioles were held to just three hits today and scored only eight runs on a batting average of .206 in this series. Boston beat San Diego this afternoon and the Red Sox are 8-1 over their last nine games. That Boston win drops the O's 4 1/2 games back in the AL East. The Red Sox begin a 10-game west coast road trip Friday night at Anaheim.
