The Orioles won't activate third baseman Manny Machado from the disabled list tonight if their game against the Pirates is postponed due to rain. Otherwise, Machado will start at third base.
"If we activate Manny tonight," said manager Buck Showalter, "he will play."
The lineup hasn't been posted. Showalter is attending another weather meeting and we could have a decision before 5 p.m.
If the Orioles attempt to play a doubleheader on Wednesday, left-hander Troy Patton could come off the restricted list between games. Same with a Thursday doubleheader.
First baseman Chris Davis received two Platelet Rich Plasma injections yesterday in his left oblique, the same type of shot that pitcher Zach Britton received in his left shoulder a few springs ago.
A PRP treatment is a process of using a patient's own blood products to facilitate healing.
"Today, just kind of icing and waiting for the soreness to go down. And hopefully this will speed up the healing process a little bit," Davis said.
"They took my own blood and took the plasma from my blood and injected it into my oblique. It's taking the place of cortisone shots now, they're telling me. It's supposed to help the recovering process. From what I was told, it can do nothing but help. That's sort of where I'm at."
Davis will accompany the Orioles to Minnesota and Tampa on the upcoming road trip.

Note: The Orioles just announced that outfielder/first baseman Steve Pearce was claimed on unconditional release waivers, but elected free agency instead of accepting the claim.
It's playing right into the Orioles' hands.
The club wants to re-sign Pearce now that Davis is on the disabled list.
