Mychal Givens is listed among the Orioles' relievers today. The club is purchasing his contract from Double-A Bowie and optioning Tyler Wilson to Triple-A Norfolk.
Givens would be making his major league debut. The Orioles selected him in the second round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of Plant (Fla.) High School.
Givens, the shortstop-turned reliever, is 3-1 with a 1.60 ERA and 12 saves in 23 appearances at Bowie, with 54 strikeouts in 39 1/3 innings. His fastball touches the upper 90s with his three-quarters delivery.
The Orioles will need to clear a spot on the 40-man roster.
Nolan Reimold is in center field today for the first time in his major league career. Adam Jones remains the designated hitter.
Reimold played 51 games in center field in the minors, most recently in 2008 at Double-A Bowie.
Manager Buck Showalter wanted an extra right-handed bat against Blue Jays left-hander Mark Buehrle. Exceptions are Travis Snider in left field, Chris Davis at first base and Ryan Flaherty at second base.
