Orioles to interview LaCava, contacted Marlins about Jennings (updated)

The Orioles have received permission from the Toronto Blue Jays to interview Tony LaCava for the position of general manager. Also, they've requested permission from the Florida Marlins to interview Dan Jennings. However, Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria is in Europe, so that decision is on hold. The interviews with LaCava and Diamondbacks executive Jerry Dipoto might not take place before Monday. As I wrote earlier, manager Buck Showalter is tentatively scheduled to fly back to Texas late tonight or early tomorrow. Jennings is currently in Arizona to do some scouting in the fall league. You can read more about LaCava right here. Here's more on Jennings, courtesy of the Marlins media guide: * Dan Jennings enters his ninth season with the Marlins, serving as Vice President of Player Personnel and Assistant General Manager. He signed a contract extension through the 2015 season on September 29, 2007. He joined the Marlins as Vice President of Player Personnel on July 26, 2002. Jennings oversees all the Club's professional scouting and is involved in player procurement and evaluation at the amateur and professional levels. * Prior to joining the Marlins, Jennings served as the Director of Scouting for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for seven-plus seasons. Under his direction, the Devil Rays signed and developed more than 45 Major League players, including All-Star outfielders Josh Hamilton, Carl Crawford and 2003 AL Rookie of the Year runner-up Rocco Baldelli. * Jennings began his scouting career in 1986 as an associate scout for the Cincinnati Reds and joined the Seattle Mariners as an area scout in 1988. He was promoted by the Mariners to Midwest crosschecker in 1995 and was named the Devil Rays Scouting Director on August 16, 1995. •* An undrafted right-handed pitcher, Jennings was signed by the New York Yankees out of a tryout camp in 1984 and attended spring training with Class A Greensboro. After his minor league career, he coached baseball at Davidson High School in Mobile, Alabama, before starting his scouting career with the Reds. * Jennings is a 1984 graduate of William Carey College in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He also attended and played baseball at Southern Mississippi. Jennings, his wife, Lori, and their three sons, Tyler (25), Stewart (25) and Hunter (21), reside in Daphne, Ala.
