The starters look to start pitching better

When Jeremy Guthrie and Jake Arrieta each pitched seven innings in the final two games of the series against Boston, it was just the second time on the season that O's starters went seven or more in two or more consecutive games. May 12: Zach Britton, 9 IP vs. Seattle May 13: Jeremy Guthrie, 8 IP at Tampa May 14: Brad Bergesen, 9 IP at Tampa July 19: Jeremy Guthrie, 7 IP vs. Boston July 20: Jake Arrieta, 7 IP vs. Boston In the last 33 games, Orioles' starters have completed seven innings just four times with Guthrie doing it twice, Arrieta once and Alfredo Simon once. The starting pitching ERA is 7.27 in that span. Over the last 22 games, O's starters are 4-13 with a 8.20 ERA and have completed six or more innings just five times. Tonight's starter, Simon, went seven innings and allowed just two runs in his most recent start on Saturday against Cleveland in an Orioles' win. Then Guthrie and Arrieta pitched to a combined ERA of 3.21 in the last two games against the Red Sox. It's a start. For the starting pitching.
