Zimmerman jogs, feeling "OK" as rehab continues

Normally, going for a light run is not big news. Unless, of course, you are an All-Star third baseman and the face of the franchise, recovering from abdominal surgery, it becomes a much bigger deal. Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman went jogging today and he said his abdominal muscles "felt OK," 10 days out from surgery. Zimmerman was placed on the 15-day disabled list April12a nd had surgery to repair his torn abdominal muscle May 3 in Philadelphia. Zimmerman stayed back in Washington, D.C., to rehabilitate, and has watched the Nationals on television during their recent nine-game, 10-day road trip. "Hitting has started to come around," Zimmerman said. "They have been fighting to get some runs across. That is a pretty tough road trip to score runs on. They did a good job the last two series after getting beat up in that first series. "It is hard to come back and win two series against Florida and Atlanta, it shows you what this club is all about." Zimmerman said the toughest part for him is wanting to get back on the field so he can help the team now. "That is the hardest part, being patient and letting it get all the way better," Zimmerman said. "Because sitting around and watching them play and not being able to do anything is really hard to do." Zimmerman said he does see and feel progress in what is still supposed to be a six-week rehabilitation. "It is getting better," Zimmerman said. "It still gets sore and swelling, but that is normal. Up to three weeks, it can continue get sore and swelling, that is just from the scar tissue. But everything has gone according to plan and everything looks good."
